What’s the best advice you could give someone for setting up a saltwater reef aquarium? (BAD ADVICE ONLY)

You need an instrument to measure the sea salt. It called:

Just use add some Morton's table salt to some tap water and you will be fine.

You must have been talking to my wife regarding your second point...whenever my kids say "daddy why won't you build us a swimming pool, I point toward the Pacific Ocean a few blocks to the north and say "you have the largest swimming pool in the world just down the street." And when I talk to my wife about upgrading my aquarium she points the same way and says "you have the largest aquarium in the world just down the street!"

You can test your water in the tank!
Simply add one bottle of testing fluid per ten gallons, and look for the changing colors!

Of course you can put guppies in your reef tank! They'll be some of the most colorful fish in there!

Aptasia? Any anemone is a good anemone.
Algae is a good thing. My tank is loaded with it and my parameters are perfect.
