Battlecorals Snipes Blue Discussion Thread

Been fighting cyano after getting rid of my Dino’s, so I’ve had 2x 3-day blackouts in the last month. Doesn’t seem to be hurting the growth though....encrusting well and good color:

Don’t have great news. I noticed my blue snipes frag was not looking too good and was STN a little from the base. I took it out and dipped it and then fragged it hoping I can save it.

I am not sure what this pest is that came off in the dip and I could use some help figuring this out. Here is a link to a short video that I took and a crappy photo.

I don’t think it looks like AEFW, but then again I have never seen one before so not sure. I am praying this is just a harmless creature.

I think that’s moving to fast to be a flatworm but not 100%

I have a few that are just in a stall, but I have not noticed any distress. One of my bonsi did have a few tips that lost tissue, but that is it. The majority of my acros have actually just started to really take off with growth in the past 6 weeks. I’m stumped but I will dip a few more tonight that are easy to get and not encrusted on the rocks yet. I am hoping I don’t have a bad pest. I dip everything, but don’t have a qt system for corals.

September entry is posted. Going to hang my Kessils on either side of my halide to get some more light to the sides of tank. Trying to figure out how to fit a couple t5 over the tank as well. Kinda want to try out a halide/led/t5 combo. I already have everything. Just need to figure out how to fit it all above the tank. My halide reflector is as wide as my tank is. So that makes it kinda challenging.

That beast of a lighting setup is kinda what inspired this whole idea;)

I'll have 2 kessil 360we with a 250w 14k Phoenix halide in the middle. I'm going to make a bracket at work next week out of aluminum that will mount to the halide reflector shell so I can mount the t5 reflectors. I'm also bringing the top shell piece to work so I can cut it out for a 4" 110v fan to help with heat issues. I'll have that turn on and off with my halide.

Lol! I noticed a huge difference when I added 4xt5 to the Kessils when I was using them. Really like t5 myself. And led and halide. I think all work well, so why not mix it all as a trial.

I can touch mine
Plus I have an open top canopy so none of the heat get trapped
I prolly should have a small silent fan just bringing in new air couldn’t hurt

I was just messing with the other guys, of whom I am definitely jealous of their awesome set ups (definite 'Fixture Envy").
We are just barely out of the gate, but overall, I am very pleased with how my frag is coming along, but remember, mine was in my tank a few weeks before the others were shipped so after adjusting for the time difference I estimate its right there in the middle of the pack. I mostly entered this contest to learn, and I really like how we are all sharing our techniques and it'll be cool to see how these different set ups all pan out (plus its sweet to dream a little about maybe Seabiscuiting in at the finish line and winning that $700 battlebox out from under War Admiral's nose.)
