Hey guys,

Will be plumbing my tank this week. I have the Eshopps Eclipse L box, and will be running the Bean Animal style drain setup.

I have two 90 degree street elbows, along with two 90 degree regular elbows. Both at 1" in size.

One is the full siphon, I get that. However, the second drain (non emergency)... Does it NEED to be air vented? or only if you plan on running it fully submerged?

Stupid question I am sure lol Thanks everyone!

Not a stupid question at all and you may even get multiple answers. I drilled the 90s on mine because it won’t always be partially submerged. If the water level rises to the point where you are getting close to the emergency drain then the second drain will be submerged and the air will need somewhere to go. It may be a tight fit and you may need to trim the 90s.

Is it an okay idea to just drill the top of the drain drain line for the vent? I see some guys with tubing, and such for an air vent.

My understanding is that with a hole and no airline then air can escape as the water level rises then it can become a full siphon when it is submerged whereas with the airline then air will continue to be introduced.

So it’s a good thing to just run a drilled hole then? Sorry I’m still new haha

Does that look like I’m positioning correctly? Height wise.

Nice! I suggest that you bring the secondary down just a little but it is close. Also realize that you may tweak it after you get the water running through it.

The secondary drain is often setup as a Durso standpipe (vented). If you don’t it will go full siphon when the water rises and you will get a recurring toilet flush effect in your overflow box. Better with a hole drilled but no airline on it, it will flush only if water gets high enough to cover the air hole which is a better scenario.

Thanks guys! I’ll drill the secondary for a vent and lower it down, and go from there. So excited to finally get this tank full of water!

The bottom of the U on the secondary (plus a bit) sets the water level in the box. I don’t personally bother with a U on the primary siphon. Prefer this.

I also like to upsize the pipe diameter on my emergency (if there’s room). Give you you more flow, with a lower water level should you never need it to handle significant volume.
