Beehave's Starting Journey

It's 1 mL per 10 gallons of water. I usually calculate my volume at 80-85% of the total (tank and sump) because of sand, rock, and equipment.

My 125 with 30 gallon sump was almost exactly 100 gallons of water.
Screenshotting! Send me a bill.

Currently running Uv, added flow, filter floss at night. Adding bacteria, slightly overfeeding. Just ordered copepods and phyto. I think it may be time to introduce some peroxide. 😁 thank you hun. Im grateful!
It'll help. But be sure to blow it off the rocks with a turkey baster right before lights out. That's important because without it ssuspended in the water column, that stuff almost immediately settles back on everything you dont want it to touch. It can be frustrating. The UV cant kill it unless it's suspended in the water.

Tyvm!

Do you have a microscope or have access to one? The treatment can vary based on the particular type you have.

*lifting up my glasses* would it surprise you if I said, "I do actually have a nerdy microscope."

In my own personal metric system it's like 2, "weet weets". 😁👍
I never worried about it after seeing some people pouring it into their tank.

If you have an apex, it's cool to watch it work.
That's how I came up with "2 weet weets" for my own system.

You can probably figure out the ideal dosage in 2-3 nights.

Why can I hear you say, weet weet?

Prep some slides for me, plz. No rush. They aren't going anywhere (yet). In the meantime, observe your rockwork and your sandbed. Use white light after lights out and let me know if you see the dinos on the sandbed and rocks, or if they have moved into the WC.

Then tomorrow when lights come back on, see if they come back to the rocks and sand.

Additionally, slow the flow through your UV by a lot. You want as much contact time as possible when they flow through.

haha!

It's good to have some people around willing to look at some slides man. That's huge.
I'm scared of looking at slides. There are things I just don't want to know.

Ever splash water in your mouth and for the next hour you just lay there waiting for the paralysis and convulsions?
Me neither.

I use a turkey baster to dose when I do so mine is about as scientific as yours except no ORP probe.

@JoJosReef would be disappointed in you if anyone ever told him...

The other thing I want you to do is go to your online vendor of choice and purchase a big pack of filter floss (the kind you can pull apart into chunks) and Korralin Zucht Sponge Power or Brightwell Sponge Xcel.

You are going to rip some chunks of filter floss and suspend them in your WC at night after lights out. You'll remove those chunks in the morning right before lights on and throw them away. This will remove a good bit of them mechanically.

The KZ and BW products I mentioned are essentially silicates. You are going to dose this into your system to intentionally cause a diatom bloom.

Diatoms will outcompete the dinos for food. We'll eradicate these later on.

By attacking the issue from a number of pathways, you give yourself a greater chance of success.

Tysm for your help. I'm super grateful. Ordering your hardware list right now.
