Update:

This is an update on my tank. Ive had to change the rock around a bit. Have added some coral.

I did away with my protein skimmer, it was aggravating me greatly. Im still learning everyday about reefing. Its been a long journey so far. Dealing with fish disasters, some dying corals. Learning what works and what doesnt.

So far its been a great joy!

Ok what lights for i need to go bankrupt?
quanta helix meso blue will give you tons of blue and some violet pop for a decent price. Or if you need more whites the reef crest days are good for that. If you are looking for a whole new setup though Reef breeders meridians are what i have had my eye on for the next upgrade.

LOL, i can understand that. This will help you get more true to life pics:
Amazon product

That is the one i have and have been very much happy with. Takes great pics and pulls the blue out and makes the colors look like what you see with your eyes.

stupid link. those are the orphek lens kit, extra wide. amazon has them or wherever.

Canister. Brave. I knew a guy who had a canister filter set up. He had it for like 20 years. Which is crazy, but honestly, his house smelled like a fish market. I would yeet the canister and get a really good HOB skimmer and call it a day, and if you wanted to get real fancy a Tidal HOB or something. I dunno, don't take my advice cause I have so many starts and stops. I suck. But I am following to see how it goes with a canister.

my first SW tank ran on a canister, can definitely be done. I would agree with you there though, i am lazy for maintenance. Tidal or the fluval clear hobs are way less work and the design makes them easy to maintain, but you do end up with more salt creep if they splash. I ended up taking all the mechanical filtration out of my canister towards the end, except the coarse sponge and just ran it with some carbon and seachem matrix. Too much work to clean every week and have to re-prime though for me, so i made sure my next one had a sump.

I have my lights up on the stands to keep from salt creep.

I love my canister filter. And I get my filtration stuff on Temu! Im a cheap idiot. But it works. My tank is clear as day. I cut my own filter sponge, cut my filter floss. Use a carbon sheet. They have bio media.
