Im having a ridiculous Battle of the Dinos...and losing. Its ridiculous. They just dont give up. What can I say, im just a loveable kind of person. They wanna stick around.
Dino’s suck. We have all had a bad outbreak before. Just hang in there! I always had good luck with raising my nitrates and phosphates. But, I am not trying to tell you what to do, I am no expert on the subject. I am batting a small green Cyano outbreak. I almost have it beat. This hobby always keeps us on our toes 🙂

That’s cool! I didn’t know butterfly’s ate seaweed! I am a big fan of copper bands, but they are really hard to keep, so I might just have to try one like yours when I upgrade down the road!

I didn't know either and I read they only do that when they are hungry. But I think she just mimics my tang. Now everytime I put it in, she's the first one running over to it. It's hilarious.

Cyano stinks but Dino’s can be much more difficult to manage. Green Cyano has been more temperamental to deal with over red Cyano for some reason.
The way I beat dinos, or the way I THINK I beat dinos was to blow off the rocks right before lights out and suspend them, then throttle up the pumps, give a nice dose of peroxide and turn on my UV.

In 2-3 nights it was gone.

Ive never dosed my tank with peroxide. So you know about how much for a 90 gal? I wont you accountable for any damages! I can have this notarized if you like. 🤣

I think I have about 70-80 gallons total here in my system. That's tank, sump and refugium out back.

Tank is 45 gallons and way overbuilt with 3/4" thick acrylic. It's 3'lx2'dx12" tall.
Sump is about the same size as the tank. The biggest reef octopus sump. Another 25 gallons and then the refugium is like 10-15 gallons I think...something like that.

And I give 2, 2 second squirts out of the bottle into the sump. This is not exacting and of no major concern.
That much should raise your ORP about 30-50 points depending on your water's mood.
Excuse my tank. It's been been running for like a year on autopilot just maturing, so I'm just getting corals back in it now.
I pushed things too far last year. 🙄

It used to be this and was doing so great...until I screwed up. But that's ok! We can rebuild!

***The really important piece is the UV sterilizer.*** That's been huge for me. But the peroxide helps.
If you dont have a UV, I believe it's a great investment in the long term health of the fish and corals.
But I turn it off for a time when I feed phytoplankton.

It's 1 mL per 10 gallons of water. I usually calculate my volume at 80-85% of the total (tank and sump) because of sand, rock, and equipment.

My 125 with 30 gallon sump was almost exactly 100 gallons of water.

Currently running Uv, added flow, filter floss at night. Adding bacteria, slightly overfeeding. Just ordered copepods and phyto. I think it may be time to introduce some peroxide. 😁 thank you hun. Im grateful!
