Beginner hoping to gain experience during fallow period

Hey all, I just had an outbreak of Velvet in my display tank and although there are still a couple fish holding on, but I doubt they'll make it long judging by the symptoms showing. Therefore I will be going though the 76 day fallow period and since I've never kept hard corals before, this seems like a perfect opportunity to learn. Since I'm inexperienced with hard corals (except for sun corals), which corals would be good choices for a newbie? I was told the pocillopora genus would be a good choice but what are some others as well?

When you say “ hard corals” do you mean sps?

If you just mean stony corals, then LPS (large polyp stoney" is generally easier than SPS (small polyp Stoney)

Poccillopora is a type of SPS.

Easy LPS are euphilias - torch, hammer, or frogspawn corals. Candy cane, duncans, and favias are also usually pretty easy
