I throwing some stocking thoughts around in my head. I really want to incorporate and group of Anthias into my reef tank. I like a lot of them(lyretails, bartletts, dispar, etc.) but I want to find the best species suited for myself and my tank. The tank is a 125 gallon. I have an eheim auto feeder so multiple feedings shouldn't be a problem. I'm not trying to break records here and keep some hard to keep Anthias and I don't want to get into a species that is a crap shoot. By that I mean won't eat, won't turn to all males, or whatever may come up. So what species should I look into. Gotta be colorful and relatively easy to keep. Other fish stock includes
2 clowns
Firefish
Royal gramma
Blue sided fairy wrasse
Also going to add a purple tang.

I strongly recommend dispar or ignitus anthias. They are hardy, more peaceful than squamipinnis and bartletts, and readily accept most foods. My next recommendation would be randalls, all the above benefits apply, but is slightly more sensitive.

well said, fathead anthias are a good choice too but typically found alone and wont school like the ones mentioned above

I recommend 5+ to get the best looks and social interaction.

I really am happy with my borbonius. I have heard of people doing pairs and trios
Unless thenk is huge, borbs will pr, but not school, plus they are kind of pricey.

True. But one would look killer in a tank with a handful of the others! I am just an anthias junky, I like all of them!

Tagging on....

I was seriously looking at Ignitus anthias, but after reading a reefkeeping article on pseudoanthias, I ruled them out was was leaning towards Bartletts since the article said they were pretty much bullet-proof for an anthias. Ignitus really are my first choice because of their more docile nature. Perhaps I should re-evaluate.

Bartletts can be pretty aggressive toward other Pseudanthias species. Ignitus are a much better choice for most situations.

Ignitus/dispar are pretty easy as well, though perhaps not as colorful as the Bartlett. Personally, I like bartletts; if you can give them adequate space. I keep mine in a large tank with a group of bimacs. The largest bimac male 'police's' the bartletts and keeps them in line.
