Best goby for a 15 gallon

I am looking to get a pair of clowns and some sort of goby for a 15 gallon tank. I am in between a rainford goby, a diamond watchman goby and a yellow watchman goby. I want to put 1 in and only 1 but I’m not sure witch. I also do not know if I should get a shrimp if I chose one of the shrimp goby’s. Witch do you think I should get?

A pair of clowns are going to be very territorial in such a small tank. Just keep that in mind.

A Diamond goby is way to big for a 15 gal.

Maybe look into a Tailspot blenny.

Ok interesting I will definitely not go that root. Would a YWG or a rainford goby be good for the tank?

I would go the YWG route as they don’t get very big. Also want to mention i have a pistol shrimp and never see him. So keep that in mind when adding creatures to your tank thinking they are cool and you will see them.

Rainfords are tiny and would fit in ok, but sometimes they can be tricky to get eating. My clowns paid no attention at all to him.

Ok I’ll ask the LFS if they can show me him eating if they can!

There are so many epic gobies for a tank like that!

Between those two I like the rainfords personally however the YWG might make more sense because it won’t be competing for swimming space with the clowns.


If gour shopping for gobies in general… My top picks would probably the cleaner gobies! Theres several different species (blue, yellow and and one with both)!

Other epic gobies:

Circus goby (very cryptic, acts like a little lionfish)

Black rayed shrimp goby (just a dope looking nano goby for a pistol pair)

Clown gobies (theres a green, yellow and the citron clown goby, all really cool fish which tend to perch in hilarious places very much like blennies.

Second that. Our yellow clown goby is awesome. Our high fin is also cute but he’s always hiding so only neat when feeding and then only for seconds at a time. The clown goby is always out and about, showing off.

Clown goby’s are cool but I would love to get sps eventually and I believe that they eat it or something like that. I have seen some threads about it.

Clown gobies are generaly reef safe BUT never keep them with sps.

I don’t think there are any other options for yellow colored gobies.
But if you still want a goby a court jester goby might be a good option.
Other fish that look amazing for less than $20 is a twin spot blenny (not goby)
Another great and beatiful beginner friendly option is a tailspot blenny.

For fully yellow nano fish i don’t really think that there is any more options but royal grammas look amazing, inexpensive and very hardy.
