Best reliable submersible pump for constant on/off wavemaking applications?

Hey Everyone!


Looking for a submersible pump that I can turn on and off at frequent intervals. It must be reliable and non-propeller style. I need to connect it to a hose/pvc so Vortechs and Tunze controllables are out.


I would like to learn about all options and your experiences with all pumps for possible future applications but for this one I will need something fairly powerful. I'm not sure how powerful but here is my situation so you can get a feel for my head pressure. I'd think at least 1200 gph.


It will be pumping water only horizontally. Along the 6 foot length of 3/4 tubing their will be 5 outlets with valves to adjust flow and I will use loc-line flared outlets.

How about those Tunze return pumps? Ask Roger if one will fit your application.

if want something almost bullet proof i would go with a mag pump

Mag-drives: I thought they were for made for being on all the time, not frequent on/off

I have used them in the past for many applications but recently have stopped using them since they have begun to be manufactured overseas and I have had some newer ones fail on me. I believe others have had problems as well since they stopped being manufactured in the US. Seems to be a quality issue as was my understanding.

could be very true. i didnt know thay went overseas. the ones i had were made in usa. so maybe quality has went down.
i think you will have a hard time finding a pump made for what you want unless you by a whole setup controllers and pumps all together.
the on off thing will be hard on any pump.

When you say whole setup controllers and pumps all together what specifically are you referring to? I already have a Tunze 7095 Multicontroller and 6055's but these are prop pumps that won't work for my application. I know other brands including vortech etc make these prop pumps with controllers but I am looking for a submersible pump that can be connected to pvc.

for example, maxi-jet pumps are marketed to be used in on/off applications but they are too small for what I need imo
