Hi Everyone,

I hope you had a nice weekend!

I recently did an ATI ICP test and I’m working on dosing certain trace elements to raise those levels to recommended ranges.

Per the screenshot in my next post below, I’m low in Iodine, Manganese, Iron, Zinc, Barium, and Silicon.

I’m using individual supplements for Iodine and Manganese that I have.

However I’m still determining how to go about dosing for Iron, Zinc, Barium, or Silicon.

I was considering using Tropic Marin’s Pro-Coral K+ Trace 1 which contains the following:
  • Barium
  • Boron
  • Chrome
  • Cobalt
  • Iron
  • Copper
  • Manganese
  • Nickel
  • Strontium
  • Zinc
Does anyone have experience positive or negative with using Tropic Marin’s Pro-Coral K+. If this product works well and is a good way to dose multiple elements simultaneously, I’ll gladly do that.

I was slightly nervous that if something like Strontium is already adequate. That using a catch-all product like Pro-Coral K+ for Iron and Manganese would possibly result in excess amounts of some other elements that were already in proper range..

In the event I went with the Pro-Coral K+. I would likely stop dosing Manganese individually and just rely on the Pro-Coral K+

Alternatively, I was going to continue dosing individual elements for deficiencies. For example, for Iron I was going to use Brightwell Aquatics Ferrion - Concentrated Iron Supplement.

Thanks for any thoughts or feedback.

Best,
Andrew

I'd skip the barium as it has no known requirement in any organism.

Silicate is easy to dose, but may not be needed unless you grow sponges or want to spur diatoms (such as to fight dinos).

Using the TM A and K is a fine way to go.

Remember that trace elements are fine in wide ranges. Exact numbers are not critical.

i personally think strontium dosing is of no value, but slightly raised values will not be a problem.

Check out notafeesh.com, Hunter & Ruxin have a wealth of knowledge, and his supplements are of the highest quality.

Hey Randy,

Thanks for directing me to the DIY thread, these are great options.

One question, is there any real issue/risk with an all-in-one type solution like the Tropic Marin Pro-Coral K+ Trace 1? In terms of it including multiple elements as part of a single solution? I need Iron, Zinc, and Manganese because those are low.

But Strontimum and Cobalt for example are already in their correct range... Would I risk having excessive volumes of other elements like Strontium if I use this all-in-one solution to solve Iron, Zinc, Manganese, or is that not really something to worry about..

DIY will ultimately be most cost efficient so I'll need to review that as I go as well.

There’s no risk of a problem using Tropic Marin A and K even if some trace
Elements are already ok. That was my point about a fairly wide range being fine.

Okay great, thanks for confirming. Getting into learning about trace elements for the first time is a whole new set of learnings! But i'm just excited to be understanding my tank better, thanks for the help
