Better and Sweeter than LiveAquaria

Entire Hawaii lineup will be available. They are discussing species and how many can be collected at this time. It will be very soon yellow tangs, kole, potter angels, chevron etc will be all available like before.

Put me on the list for a QT Kole tang soon as they come in please and thanks.

And I just read some more stuff. Kole tangs are on the "not for capture" list along with the Chevron and Naso. Sad

See my edit above @Dr. Reef
oh no. I am in touch with 2 divers/wholesalers there in Hawaii, I know ban is lifted and permit and qty descussions are on but what will be approved and what not is not yet in my knowledge.
Cheveron and Naso are available from other regions and I see cheveron time to time at wholesalers.

A post from Wednesday on another forum.

So passed unanimously. but with motion passed to amendments.

Amendments are as follows

From the 8 species on the Trade representative PIJAC (now known as Pet Advocacy Network) proposed white list (which I posted earlier as the attached document in pdf), the amendments passed by the board would reduce this to 5 Species.

The species where often referred to by the Hawaiian cultural names so I am calculating the actual species.

The three species to be removed from the original proposed white list, so effectively not allowed to be collected by virtue of a 0 catch limit are

Not allowed to be collected

Orangespine unicorn fish (Naso lituratus)

Kole Tang Goldring surgeonfish (Ctenochaetus strigosus)

Chevron Tang (Ctenochaetus hawaiiensis)

Allowed to be collected

Yellow Tang (Zebrasoma flavescens) Total Catch limit Per Year reduced from 200,000 to 100,000

Bird wrasse, (Gomphosus varius) Total catch limit Per Year 344

Potters Angelfish, (Centropyge potteri,) Total catch limit Per Year 4,376

Brown surgeonfish, (Acanthurus nigrofuscus) Total Catch Limit Per Year 800

Thompson's Sugeonfish (Acanthurus thompsoni) Total Catch limit Per Year 2,016

Now goes to public consultation, time line is difficult to calculate however proposed timeline is Collection of above species to begin Summer 2026.

Ther was a slight reference from legal council for those opposed to the collection commencing, by motion 97-1 however it would seem that no route for such a motion as all avenues have already been stated by the Attorney Generals Office.

Legal Council also submitted that the previous move for a contended case was not valid.

Oh I see. Its still a victory in getting Hawaii to open. I am sure things may open fully over time. I wasnt aware of restrictions on certain species. Thank you for bringing that up.

Fully QT - another Dr reef fan here
Non-QT - NY Aquatic's livesale prices are great
Supposedly My aquatic does qt treatments as well. I've gotten four or five fishes from them and have never had a problem

We will match any credits or coupons from liveaquaria (issued after Sept 1st, 2025 till we decide to stop). Send us a proof and we will match it.

you will be able to walk into a retail store and buy a yellow tang but nor sure what price as nothing is disclosed yet. All I can say is that we are trying to be the first one to bring them in and sell them at the lowest price point possible.

Unfortunately nothing is the same price as 5 years ago, as allot of others have said . Damsels here are now 15-20.00 they used to be 5.00
So even with out the ban they would still have gone up. Im sorry you were paying 55-75 pre ban thats pretty steep. They were 45.00 tops here and on sale all the time for 20-30.00. I totally took it for granted. Im lucky mines still healthy and happy and going on about 10 years old.
