I just picked this guy up at RAP in NJ this past weekend. I bought it because it looked cool. Ot was sold as a Welso. I have my doubts. Anyone have a better ID? TIA

I can see why you bought it, it’s beautiful but I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it. If it gets to frustrating, not knowing the id, I would be happy to take it off your hands for your sake! 😉

Super cool coral nonetheless, but Welso are single polyp corals. So I dont think its that, unless its one and I just cant tell. But I think its either a bowerbanki or type of acantho.

Looks to me like two acans that are growing near each other, although the growth in the mouth area is odd

Still it’s a nice coral!

Did they sell the other one? What vendor, so I can enquire before @kevgib67 makes a connection!
Not so fast Kris, after I pm him and gave me the vendor I bought the last one and they don’t think they or any other vendor will have another. 😉

It came from TRSC Aquatics. I doubt they sold the big one. They did have another one in the size I got. Should have grabbed that one too. lol. Good luck. Hope you can score the big guy.

I haven't confirmed this, but I've heard the long-term survival rate of these corals are pretty low, mainly due to the fact that these come from subtropical waters, which is colder than what most tanks run at.

Tidal Gardens has a very informative video on their website regarding this species. While they say this coral likes a 75 degree tank it will adapt to warmer water. Mine is on the bottom where it’s a bit cooler.
