Hi Ed awesome tank and corals been a secret fan for a good while.
I have ran all sorts of lighting over the years I am currently running two hydra 26 do you know if it's possible to recreate your t5 spectrum on the hydra?

Thanks AGAIN Ed! You convinced me to add 2x Coral+ and 2x Blue+. Did it with an AL fixture with XR30. Next step is to change out the ballasts, but already seeing color and coral improvement. I've NEVER seen corraline grow like it.

in those 3 years that you had this frag, did you moved it to different positions or did you just kept it in same place and par level? I want to know how patient you need to be with an acro before moving it to another level when trying to get the best color in it?

I think I moved it once after about a year or so. I usually would give it at least 3 months.

Hi Justin, thanks ........... I doubt you'll be able to match up with just the hydras. I think the best option would be to add 4 T5s. They will help with coverage and also fill in missing spectrum.

Use the bulbs to get most of your white and the LEDs for the blue. Coral+ really help with pinks and reds.

Display with Ice Cap Ballast (overdriven) every 6 months

Frag Tank- 6 bulb Sunpower 10 months

2 weeks after I change them I can always visually see color pop...........this is about when the bulbs have burned in. I believe the corals respond to the spectrum back to where they do best and of course the bulbs are running at their peaks.

There is very little change in par over time, but spectrum shifts.

Here's a few pics, I'll get more posted later--

Smurfette- I've had this for 3 years and it went dormant on me many times and when it grew it was very slow.

It's finally hitting it's stride with new buds and colors. This is the nicest pink type milli I have ever seen and I've owned and seen all the popular named millis in person. The branch tips have a majenta purple that leads to blue tips and the body is an electric pink.

Wintergreen Delight- I really like the bright pastel green on this and it really stands out if surrounded by some darker colored acros.

Nice branch shot of the Wild Rasberry

Goblin Milli and Utter chaos-- I don't see forest green millis that often. Most are the brighter green. Nice contrast of colors and why I like zoa/palys.......... they can really set off acros.

WWC Bounce- I'm liking the colors under my "white" lights:cool::)

It may help, but honestly you aren't going to color up the corals the same without adding the T5's.

Thanks, you should be able to get about 325-350 12" from your lights. Keep the fixture at 7-8 inches from the surface & inside that 36" length.
You'll get good colors anywhere from 250-400 on most acros. 200 is enough for some.

When you say ~350PAR 12’’ from the lights, do you mean at 12’’ depth , or at 4’’ depth if the lights are at lets say 8’’ above the tank?

Below are numbers I took with my 4 over driven bulbs on my 75g tank. Your 6 bulb Sunpower will pull similar numbers as my 6 bulb Sunpower on my frag tank matches those levels.

The lights are 6 1/2" from the surface and total water depth is 18 1/2". The first number is the level from the floor of the tank. The number in ( ) is the distance from the bulbs.
1" off the bottom-- 200 (24)
3"- 260 (22)
6"- 280 (19)
10"- 300 (15) This is mid level area of the tank.
11"- 325 (14)
12"- 360 (13)
13"- 400 (12)
14"- 430 (11)
15"- 470 (10)
17"- 500 (8)

Don't get too caught up with par numbers.........you have plenty of par. Just break the tank into thirds and place acros accordingly. They will tell you with colors and growth how they are doing and if you have to move up or down.

Most well known proven acros have a history where it's best to put them.

Just take your 18" height divide by 3 to give you three levels. It's mainly for a mental picture.

Level 1- floor to 6"
Level 2- 6- 12"
Level 3- 12-18"

Just trying to simplify things...........T5s are plug and play. You aren't going to have to worry about burning corals. You just have to monitor growth and color.

O M G. I have a smurfette that has been dormant almost a whole year. I snipped the tip thinking it was going to do something good. Nope. I cost myself an eighth of an inch. It was brown and ugly for a long time (came from a high PO4 MH tank) and has been sitting. Dormant. Mocking me. But it put out green polyps and green growth rim, so it's doing something.

In your pic, that depicts 3 years of growth???

Awesome corals
Im running a 6 bulb ati sunpower with 3C+ 3B+
4" off the surface on my 120.
Great colors as the tank is only 4 months old.
Coralline is growing like mad.
Po4 runs 0-.03
No3 runs 0-2
Bare bottom tank.
Low nutrients but I get green dusting on the glass every couple of days.
I feed 4 times a day.
11 fish.
Sticks are still small but all growing.
Skimmer only with filter sock.
