Hi! I know many of you are not running Biomasters but my setup have them and i find them to be great. I'm writing to let anybody interested in using them to pay particular notice of defects that may course leakage. With everything reef tank they all have their shortcomings and manufacturing faults. Im using two Biomaster thermal 600's for my 700L system with my chiller conected to one and my Algae reactor on the other. To up lift the flow rate i use a Ecotsch Vectra M2 pump that gives me a combined 1332L/hour. I also do 100% water changes monthly.
I notice after cleaning the filter, then placing the filter back in to my rack, that when i turn the system back on i would get a constant drip/leak while the second filter was fine. The leak was sometimes big, sometimes small or not at all. On diagnosing the problem i found two raised peaces of plastic 20cm apart on the underside of the housing near the main gasket and very hard to see if you weren't looking for them, a by-product of the manufacturing proses. This fault dose not allow the housing to sit 100% to the filter body and may course premature leaking of the gasket. Ive read many posts about people replacing gaskets and having the leek persist.
I solved this issue by cutting off the excess plastic so as to let the head sit snuggly to the housing allowing the gasket full compression.
Note: Be careful not to cut the gasket when doing this. Photo below of areas to look. Photo is of a random head of the net as i don't want to take mine apart again for a photo, My floor is too wet as it is. :face-with-tears-of-joy:
Hope this solves any potential leakage problems. Cheer Brad.
