Biota sent wrong clam?

Beautiful!
Curious if you used something to secure it in place? It appears to be boring into the rock (just like in nature) and I've always wanted to see captive clams working down into the rocks on a tank.

Nope! So that rock it's on was a fragment of some leftover Marco rock I had laying around. This particular rock looked like a drill had gone through it, so I chiseled that part out so it made a sort of canoe for the clam to rest in (like a halfpipe). It took about 3 days for the clam to start attaching, and about 6 for it to be secure.

I'd love to have clams boring into rock in my tank! I've pondered a lot about how to make it happen. I think I could do it with a crocea. My thoughts are to create a small divot in the rock, just big enough for the clam to open up and have a little room to grow. Clams should have no problem boring into marco rock. I may give this a try.

I think if these 2 photos were side by side at the 1st post, the answer would've been clear.

Unfortunately, we'll never have clams that small to see them actually bore into rock as they do in nature. They will dissolve some material, but they'll never be "submerged" into the rock that far. Crocea start as soon as they settle, that's why most of them in nature only show the upper margins of the shell and the mantle. But I agree, that would be awesome to see in a tank.

lol, cloud dw im pretty sure bean calls himself a jerk more than anyone else does. Just a cool and knowledgeable bloke in general if sometimes lacking tact to actually get to the point faster (ive definitely done it myself as well).

Honestly ur prob one of the best ones ive seen take criticism in a while. Seeing the new pics the clam looks even closer to the og pic and really looks beautiful. Hope it does well for you

Good to see it was cleared up with Vendor and always great to see vendors participating and providing great in put on such threads.
I echo the same as most sahred in the thread and one thing I didn't see mentioned was that as clam opens more the mantle tissue somehow stretches and the pattern and position of those dots you mentioned changes. Same like a ballon as you inflate it! so very hard to compare when the photos are top down VS side and with different level of open VS closed for the clam.
lets cut down on the arguments and personal attacks and keep it friendly so people aren't afraid to post their concern and on the other side others are not shy of voicing their thoughts.
