Got him two months ago.

At least doubled in size but developed mild HLLE.

I think it came with mild HLLE but i couldn’t be sure since it was so pale and scrawny when it came in

I think mine also has mild HLLE. Hard to tell in my video though given lights and that he is overall very pale. He is eating well though picking at the coarse sand bed and live rock non stop.

Did you do anything special for treatment?

Just as a precaution I took my ROX carbon out of the reactor (it isn’t lignite so it shouldnt have caused HLLE) and is feeding it good food. Homemade seafood mix with selcon and of course nori.

We’ll see if it improves

Here's a video of my 3 at about 10 months. The larger yellow is a wild caught for comparison. They've colored up nicely but 2 of the 3 are showing signs of HLLE that isn't visible in the video. None of my other tangs that I've had for years show any sings of HLLE so I'm not really doing anything for mine. I feed heavy and make sure they're all getting plenty of food.

EDIT: i feed mainly frozen PE mysis, Rods and LRS 3-4 times a day along with nori and algae from my scrubber. I also have several pellets and some flake I toss in as treats since my gang is so good at begging for food.

I bought 3 small ones from Dr Reef. They were definitely not as yellow as a wild caught yellow tangs when I first got them, but they do color up and I'm very happy with them.

This is just 3 days for later for reference. Yellowing up nicely but looks like some more to go! Eating like a horse… nori, frozen mysis and pellets. I’m sure he’s going to grow quick.

Looks great as do the chromis. Did the chromis come from Dr reef also?

Yes, and they have been doing great too. I’m hopeful they will all thrive long term. They often move around together and I don’t see much aggression between them.

Thanks. I haven't tried them in years but have been wanting to try a group in the current tank. All the lfs always seem to have one or two that show signs of euronema. I may have to give Dr reefs a try.

Here mine about 1.5 year old now. Definitely colored up well under high intensity lighting.

I don't understand the concern of coloration on the captive bred/raised yellow tangs. Maybe it is because prior to captive bred/raised animals all we had access to was wild collected which is obviously an older, mature fish with associated coloration. Young animals do not have their final coloration be it a yellow tang or orange shoulder. It just takes time.

Sort of like a puppy or kitting changing as they mature.

I just got a biota from my LFS also. Very small one but seems healthy. Only had him for 2 days and seems OK with pellets but not frozen yet. Pecking good on the rocks. Will try nori today. I've always wanted one but was hesitant due to my tank size but upgrading to a much larger long shallow reef tank in the coming months so he should be fine as he grows.

Here’s a quick video of my new small biota yellow tang. Practically translucent but went right into feed and picking at the rocks. Excited for him to progress. How have these fish been for other users?

I've had my Biota yellow for two years now. Super healthy and full of personality. Make sure to feed nori or fresh algae regularly.

This is my newest guy. He has been with me 2 weeks now. Was practically white in the store (and obviously is a HLLE rescue) but it amazed me how he started to color up after I released him into the display.
