Black bugs on sps

I dosed 2 small dog pills of interceptor as well as a half of a large dog pill of sentinel. It’s been almost 24hrs and I believe I can still seem then on the disturbed base of a couple sps pieces. Are these bugs resistant to both of these drugs? That’s hard to believe.

Interceptor ain’t worked and that’s after 2 doses. Acros look awful so not going to do the 3rd dose. Still waiting on a pipefish. Looking to get a small tank to transfer all corals into and treat in there. Apart from that I’m at a loss what to do

I believe black bugs have gone but I seem to have acquired AEFW from some where. Is it poss that the flatworm have kept the bugs under control/eradicated them

I read through your page and it looks like you treated for three weeks. Week one was Interceptor at 4x red bug dose. Weeks two/three was at 2x redbug dose.


Does anyone have tips on getting a Vetrinarian to sell this for a reef tank?

Hey everyone... I actually ran into these after purchasing some coral off of ebay just to get my tank going. Bad idea. The issue with these bugs as others have mentioned is that Inceptor does not work on them in my opinion. The Acro frags were decimated in a matter of a few days. In my experience, they work quickly and move quickly on the coral itself. I experienced the same base up recession that was mentioned earlier. With that being said I was lucky to get rid of them. There isn't a ton of information on Black bugs but I took an approach that I felt would break their life cycle.

I went fallow for two months
Dose Dr. Gs directly to the tank

The lesson for me was that I need to QT everything moving forward and also remove the plug from any incoming coral. I noticed the bugs activity increased at night and did end up purchasing a Sixline wrasse and Leopard wrasse.

After my reboot... I luckily have no signs of these horrific pests. Hopes this helps someone!

I have yet to find someone who has successfully dealt with them in tank. I’ve also tried the latest product in the market and that only deals with aefw. My last attempt would be to dose prazi and if that fails I will have no alternative but to shut down and reboot.

3 yrs ago and I battle these suckas...4x revive at no less then 8min and watch them go die!!!

U have them? Unfortunately The most effective way is to tear ur tank down. I’ve tried many ways and dipping rigorously but they still come back.

I never found a successful treatment. I don't know what eventually led to no longer seeing them. I employed a pipefish and different wrasses, and went through several tank breakdowns for various reasons. I always transferred at least a few corals but I never saw them again. I dipped them in Bayer 4x the regular dosage I found online and after 30-minutes they were still swimming around. When you see "black bugs" there are different kinds. Mine were very small, but some of the people I conversed with had larger ones. If the loss isn't great I would reset the tank entirely. If not the loss may be greater later.

I have these right now, and they’re SLOW to kill my acros. I think I know where it came from as well.

One of the frags I received had zero PE and just dull in color… I figured it’ll be a sacrifice to the rest of the tank.

I dropped it in a cup of RO water, and literally 30 black bugs floated to the top and bottom of the cup. Now I know what I’m dealing with. My acros are super colorful, have PE, but the growth is super slow. This is why. I’m trying to get interceptor but it’s become more of a challenge than I have ever experienced to get a dog pill lol. I’m planning on dosing 1 whole large dog pill in my aquarium, 186gallons. When I look at the tank at night, I see these guys come out that are much larger and they crawl on the rocks. Easy way to spot them: put a fresh white epoxy right next to your acros base and you’ll see them.
