Hi,
I’m wonrdering if anyone can help here..
I got this hippo tang for a LFS 4 weeks ago.
I had it in a QT for 3 weeks with Cupramine before adding it to the DT 1 week ago.

i Just noticed that it has these 3 black spots on it. It’s eating and swimming well with no flashing

this is the best pic I was able to get..
Is this Black ich (flatworms)?

my LFS suggested I give it a freshwater bath with PraziPro in the water.
I did that for 5 min just now.

is that a recommended method?
And if it doesn’t do the trick can I does a display tank with coral/anemone/starfish in it with prazipro?
The LFS suggested not to, but it says reef safe.. so I don’t know

These are turbellarian worms and likely the Paravortex version which are smaller and appear as grains of black spots
These worms have a single host life cycle producing several juveniles which can last up to 30 days but rarely do. Best is to treat with Praziquantel better known as prazi pro for two 8 day intervals with a water change on day 9.
other option is formalin based medication such as quick cure or ruby Rally Pro starting with a bath for 45 minutes followed by treatment
Do note that Prazi will lower both oxygen and appetite, so an airstone is recommended for added aeration and monitor water quality during treatment with a reliable test kit

This fish clearly shows black ich. While called ich- as Jay stated are worms that give it the appearance of ich as melanin pigmentation causes the appearance of black dots . Typically, worm treatments such as PraziPro will work as will formalin based treatment for more challenging strains and even Ruby Rally Pro. If none available immediately, you can give fish a 5 minutes freshwater dip for temporary relief same temperature as display tank.
It takes one worm to start an infestation even if fish were quarantined

Thank you so much!
Does single host mean it shouldn’t transfer onto any other fish?
And The prazi pro fresh water bath that I just gave it, would that help anything?
Lastly, would I be able to does my main DT if I have coral, anemone, starfish and inverts in it?
I know it says reef safe, but I heard conflicting views at the LFS.

To clarify,
I have a condi anemone (hosting my maroon clown)
several mushrooms
star eyed polyps
And starfish as well as snails.
And fish/live rock.

so it’s not a lot of corals,
And I don’t have feather dusters or worms that I can see.

i Just don’t want to kill what I have in my tank.
If I can treat the display tank that’s the best option

Theyre generally confined to a fish
Prazi will cause them to fall off and die off
I am reluctant in main tank but if you do, dose at 80%

Increase oxygen with air stone and maintain good water quality

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
