Hey guys

Saw a juvenile one at the lfs. Loved it but wondered if you had any thoughts on suitability.

275 litre mixed reef with pair of clowns, yellow tail damsel.

Cheers

275 (about 73 gallons) is too small for a full-size angel.

Most of the dwarf angels would be fine. Centropyge genus.

i cant think

What are the dimensions?
This species of Angel is a pass but there are others out there. If you have a 4’x2’ tank (floorspace) then you can have some of the smaller Pomacanthus angels and other medium angels. At the moment I have a 4’x2’ tank (yes I hope to get a 5-6’ tank in the very near future) and in that tank I have 2 angels. A Pomacanthus navarchus and a Pygoplites diamantjes flavescens. Both are slow growing species and in captivity don’t get overly huge and generally max out around 5-6” (Pomacanthus xanthometopon can get 15” in the wild but in captivity only really get to 1’).

Previous to these two I had a Genicanthus hybrid (originally brought as a male Melanospilos that looked strange but then reverted and looked even more odd for a mel). But again these guys only really max out at 5-6” with 2-3” streamers if they aren’t broken off in the tank.
