Hi so I need some advice. I just got this guy he eats frozen food like a champ. My question is does anyone know if he will eat anything else? Like dried shrimp, or any dry items? I am worried if I ever go somewhere for a week he would starve . Any advice would be appreciated .

He should take bites of raw shrimp fish or clams right from your hand if you want. They are usually friendly and if they know you as their provider you can usually hand feed them but accidents can happen and you cant put any fish in a category and expect them to comply.

Gotta try it to find out. Over time it should take pellets. Mix the pellets with frozen. Blue throats are the shyest of the bunch but I dont think a week of not eating will starve a fish though. It's a trigger, if it's hungry it will eat eventually.

My Blue Throat eats New Life Spectrum pellets as well as nori, in addition to frozen food. Every single day, with gusto. But he didn’t eat the dry stuff right away. Keep trying different dry foods and chances are he’ll eat them eventually.

Untill he gets used to the tank and you i would give him bits of fresh seafood as treats as well as good frozen fish food. For now i would thaw the frozen fish food in a small jar with tank water and then dump it in untill he gets used to it. A lot of people feed unthawed food to the tank, but untill he is fully acclimated i would try to make it as natural as possible.

Mine gets daily frozen, prime flakes, spectrum pellets. Eats anything

If you add to the frozen mix, it will probably eat it.

Wow thx for all the feedback. Mines is eating fine and healthy. I just wish I can teach him to eat pellets, flakes etc…. As I mention above if I take a 1 week vacation I am worried he might starve if he doesn’t learn to take dry foods that I put in an auto feeder. Glad to hear some people had success with other stuff . I definetly will give it a try now.

Once he gets settled he should eat anything. My pair are pigs. Eat frozen, pellets, flakes, nori, romaine and occasionally my finger. Over time they will become almost domesticated. No exaggeration, mine will let me reach into the tank and grab them with my hand. My kids call them dogfish cause they are like pet dogs.

Just and update. Everyone from the forum was correct. My trigger now eats pellets after just a week. So amazing . My other question now is can you add any female and they will pair? Or there are like clowns and don’t just take any female? I would like to have a pair since I love them triggers so much . My LFS has some females for sale.

Pairing and coexisting are two different things. Just gotta try it and have a back up plan if it doesn't work. They are easy going, I don't see there will be an issue. If I remember correctly it can usually be a group of females to1 male in the wild.

Clam on the half shell! Also my clown trigger does eat pellets. I feed frozen once a day and pellets once a day. I always throw a clam in for him at least once a day, he loves them

I tried clams he doesn’t ever look at it . Do you just throw it in and sit on sand bed? Clip it?

Think it can be hit or miss. I have a pair, purchased separately and they have mated. No surviving fry. But their rituals can be annoying. They chase each other at times, lightly blow on the sand it keep it clean for their eggs and go after anything that wanders into the area like tweezers, algae scrapers etc. The one good thing is the male will change its colors and become a vivid silver blue with dark eyes and trigger.

I throw it in right where he is and he picks it up and follows it. When it hits the sand he goes nuts. Try soaking it in garlic and throwing it in his line of sight, should trigger a feeding response from him
