We recently picked up a blue throat triggerfish at our local SW aquarium store, very cool looking, very skittish fish. We have had him for about 5 days and he is slowly coming out of the rocks more and more everyday and is a voracious eater(loves the mysis). We noticed some white spots in his eyes that we think may have popped up since we brought him home(they look like cataracts almost). His behavior is unaffected and he still eats fine. Is this something that we need to worry about or not? We think that he may have injured his bug eyes while swimming in and out of the rocks in the tank. Any experience(good or bad) would be much appreciated as we are just beginners and this is one of our first fish.

I've had a blue throat in my tank for probably 6 months now. He's been a great addition to my tank and a model citizen. Like yours, he eats like a pig, and loves some mysis and larger chunks of seafood.

Mine doesn't have any white spots in his eyes, so I can't comment on that. In time, yours will come out and stay out most of the day. Mine doesn't really even run away now when I stick my hand in the tank. Good luck with your blue throat. :)

It's probably FLUKES. i recently had it on one of my anthias. it looked like he had cataracts or cloudy eyes. try a freshwater dip for 2 minutes or so. use a glass bowl or something clear that you will be able to see these things in the bottom of. For my anthias, it took 2 dips (1 week apart) to get them all off. after the dip, you should have several "contact lens" looking things in the bottom of the bowl.

+1 on flukes or some sort of parasite. My regal tang had the same and the freshwater dips did the trick.

+1 I've seen a few Blue Jaws come in w/ flukes. Praziquantel will take care of them.

it may seem a tad anticlimatic but, it looks like they were scratches on the eyes they are healing up quite nicely. It is real easy to overreact when you start investing this kind of time, energy, and money in to the survival of unpredictable, seemingly clumsy, and expensive little critters. It is definitely worth every bit of everything we have put in so far. Thanks to everybody for the replies.
