I believe I was referring to Garf comment. Kalk is complete system so I mentioned what complete FM system is.You've also completely overlooked the fact I used an example for KH as that's what's being discussed. At no point did I state it was all you needed for a 3 part dosing system.
Haha sorry:)The number of “new” members who join R2R and then immediately gravitate to this thread and post is ironic.
don' t know if you saw that video:
It's the 3rd hit on Google when searching Fauna Marin Bolus dosing :face-with-tears-of-joy:The number of “new” members who join R2R and then immediately gravitate to this thread and post is ironic.
Could, theoretically, a peptide polymer in what appears to be a small quantity, affect the way the alk behaves when dosed compared to straight bicarb as per my initial comparative graphs?I don’t know how or if said peptide polymer makes its way from FM to the tank, but it is not present at any reasonable quantity in the alk mix powder. That material matches both the ir spectrum and alk of pure sodium bicarbonate. Perhaps it is present in other parts.

I'm confused. He stated his pH was becoming depressed using kalk/CaRX dropping to 8.0. from previously being around 8.2 ( low range ).Reefbums experience and thoughts on this thread (presumably) on YouTube "The reefers network" starts at 58 mins.
It's not surprising that someone starting a new method would want to give it a chance to shine, don't you think. Clean the pumps, remove the piles of detritus, clean the skimmer, wipe the lights, calibrate the pH probe, Lol.I'm confused. He stated his pH was becoming depressed using kalk/CaRX dropping to 8.0. from previously being around 8.2 ( low range ).
Then after starting Bolus he calibrated the pH probe and got a 0.2 increase difference in low readings after calibration.
So his pH was never really depressed using kalk/CaRX, it was just a calibration issue???????
It felt like 58 minutes passed getting through all the Hellos at the start!Reefbums experience and thoughts on this thread (presumably) on YouTube "The reefers network" starts at 58 mins. I won't post a link due to some choice language.
Don’t forget the ph probe issues (before and after bolus) and calibrations, as well as the kh director that has been “wonky” for some time….A few comments on the part of the video I watched...
1. The closed captioning might well get banned from Reef2Reef for the things it said. Kalk is apparently not in its vocabulary but similar words are.
2. It supports my disappointment with the slowness of communicating by video. In the time I watched (not more than 10 min), only one seeming fact was discussed.
3. The fact from 2 that was discussed in the segment I listened to fits exactly into my recent thread on observations vs explanations. There is just NO reason for kalkwasser ever being an explanation for pH dropping if enough is being added to maintain alk. Even if nearly every bit of it precipitated as calcium carbonate, that would give a big pH boost. It's not a no effect, its a big pH boost! It must be. I certainly do not fault anyone for not understanding the chemistry, but I do fault folks for jumping to an explanation that someone provided to them without noting other, more likely possibilities that they are surely aware of (lower total alk, higher home CO2, less photosynthesis, changes in total aeration, etc.).
I don't know where invisible bicarbonate precipitates might dissolve, but aragonite and calcite won't dissolve at 5.6 dKH and pH 8.1.Don’t forget the ph probe issues (before and after bolus) and calibrations, as well as the kh director that has been “wonky” for some time….
Oh, and if kh was truly down to 5.6 wouldn’t that have dissolved the “precipitations” back into solution by lowering ph? (Sorry, I’m no chemist….nor did I stay in the holiday inn express but I am curious)
He not shows corals... but how the PH acts when dosing the KH in real time. It is very interesting and shows the effect not come from the light. You can't be taken serious if you speak about something you did even not watch. And a lot of debate here, but why people just not try and take bicarbonate and measure what happens and post the grah instead of speaking without trying? I was also very skeptical at first as you can see in my first posts and the fauna marin explanation may not be able to explain it, but it definitely does something to the tank and corals like it.Yes we saw it, Doug was mature enough to embed a subliminal image. I don’t care to check and see if he removed it or not. Act a clown and be judged a clown. At least that is my position. I don’t care what he video shows or how nice his corals are or big his business is, after hearing him talk and seeing the way he behaves when confronted, there isn’t a word the man could say that I would trust or listen to.
