How do they align? It depends on how many grams of the stuff are dissolved into a given amount of water.

Claude's calculator and statements about what is in his product are what doesn't align.
Don't they all suggest saturated bicarb at room temp?

at least onepost was deleted and I was not told why. I'm not even sure how I could have been violating anything- given it was a two way discussion between many people.

I see a post on July 15 that was removed by an admin who was cleaning up after another member was banned and their posts removed. It held no content except comments to the other member about who said what. It was not itself a violation of the TOS, which is why you weren’t told why. But to leave it without the post it was referring to isn’t sensible and was removed.

I think you are wrong. Can you show me where?
wait, so how are you now explaining that the dose of bicarb goes up when you start bolus dosing alk in those people (like me) who have never used a calculator and who have not increased their light schedule. You've been talking about low potency FM alk for ages? and how they aren't giving the correct amount in their Alk product as the explanation?

I have no idea and don't care to look. You are running is in circles around a point that you refuse to acknowledge. This Mo. appears to be your MO. :grimacing-face:

The FM calculator and Claude's claim about what is in their product do not (can not) align. The point has been made countless times in this thread, with both math and Claude's comments for context. Recently in a YT exchange I called both Claude and Doug's attention to this, as did Garf and a few other people. Claude attempted to wiggle his way out and when that went down in flames, the comments were removed by the channel owner.

Not sure what that means, but my bicarbonate recipe is not saturated.

Except, I was given a warning out of the blue, for something I had no idea about and was told to behave, which I felt was not justified, but took it on the chin. There was no explanation and no further correspondence and I had no idea which post was deleted, just a notice of deleted comment. I would call that censorship, but that's in the past.

Mo, I don't see what's so difficult to fathom out here. The example I gave on Reefbums data shows a dose of 800 MLS of bicarb mixed to 90 grammes/litre is 1.8Dkh in a 350 gallon tank. Even if one did get the full 100 grammes to dissolve, thats only 2 DKH. The Fauna Marin calculator falsely claims this much solution would give a 3 DKH increase. This false claim appears to be the basis for most, if not all of the ridiculous science that has been put forward as an explanation, when in reality it's just a series of smoke screens.

Again, which point has been made countless times? That his product is not pure bicarb or that Randy says it is?

The calculator is irrelevant for those that have never seen or used it, like me.

As I have also explained many times. I have used standard Balling light, then switched to Bolus method. I had not increased the light schedule and my Alk consumption went up within a few days as did my pH- sustainably higher. I had switched back and forth several times over months and with kalkwasser for resaons unrelated. I have explained this many times over in this thread.

I have only been told that what i observed isn't possible- and round and round we go.....

Meanwhile, my tank keeps improving and my Alk consumption keeps going up.

Just a comment,

Without the calculator or some indication of potency, how can anyone determine if some of the alk does not show up immediately?

Perhaps you never made that point (I cannot recall) but others have.

Hello Guys, I just switched to the bolus method. For the context some months ago I tried the bolus with home balling (bicarbonate) and the zeovit method . It gave me decent results. Then two months ago I switched to modern reef, well I was not so happy with it, yellow colors were good, but other corals had less good colors, Kh consumption and corals growth went strongly down, less polyps extensions and I started to get cyano, lost a few frags. So I decided to switch back to bolus but this time 100% fauna marin. It is just a two weeks, so i can't say to much, but pH improves, corals shows again growth, Kh consumption went up and colors becomes better again. I will see how it evolves the next weeks. But for now I'm happy with it. I 'm experimenting also with different dosing times from 8h30 to 9h30 to see how my tank reacts. Light turn on at 9h and are fully open at 9h30. I will share some graph if it can helps, but you can see and effect after the dosing. Actually I also have a CO2 scrubber Wich it let go empty, this could maybe influence some results as fauna marin advise to not have one, but the advice if we have one to let it go empty for not make to fast changed

Thats nonsense.

I have never seen or used the calculator. I got the same uptick in Alk usage from bolus dosing compared to multi doses of Alk using the same concentrations as per the label and mixed many times over the months now as many other users have described and I have seen the same observations on different occasions when switching between "normal"dosing and bolus dosing over the last year or so.

My observations are not related to the calculator in anyway- its volume of the same Alk mix dosed going up rapidly. It doesnt need a Dkh calculation from the calculator to make that observation.

I dare say that is hyperbole meant to demean the opinions of others.

Who said that what you observed wasn’t possible?

It’s the explanations of those observations that are not likely to be true.

You observed a pH rise? That happens all the time for a variety of different reasons.

If you try to explain it in ways that do not make sense, I’ll call it out. If you just say pH rise, you like the effect, demand increases, crisis look good, etc., those are simple observations.

You keep injecting yourself back into the conversation in the context that we are arguing with your observations of your tank (we are not) -- and then generating nebulous arguments trying to connect that to the current context.

The only reason "round and round we go" is because you come back and comment about the science or defend FM and then pretend you are not commenting about the science or defending FM. It is perplexing.

Thanks for posting. :)

Modern Reef literally says their products are a secret formula, so it may be hard to draw conclusions other than that you did not find it to be as good as FM Balling.

Where is your pH meter in relation to dosing? The little spike looks like the alk supplement encountered the probe before mixing in very well.

It for sure is interesting wild Reefer sees improvement using fauna bicarb than DIY.

Keen to see how my kitchen bicarb vs fauna bicarb goes this week. I imagine it'll behave similarly to it did back in June albeit with equal dosages of each powder.

I also would assume that Randy is confident that both trend graphs will be identical to each other (within reason) if fauna bicarb truly is just purr bicarb and nothing else of note. Can purity play a profound effect? As a note - I will add my usual trace 3dose in with the kitchen bicarb.

Purity should be largely unimportant for effects, assuming it isn’t grossly impure. But I don’t know about what’s in some of the additives like the trace elements, or where this purported peptide comes into play.

Lots of points that are not best addressed here, but you can be 100% sure that no posts were removed from this or any thread in my forum due to censorship of opinions. I disagree with folks all the time, but it is done by showing how I believe they are wrong, not by removing the comments.

Removing text that either violates the terms of services, or is so intertwined with posts that are violations that they leave nothing of value when those offending discussions are removed is not what I would call censorship.

Regardless, your specific post I saw would not, and likely did not qualify as an actual warning, which carries future penalties. I do not actually know what post you were warned for but play nice is a common admonishment for folks arguing in ways that are of concern to admins even if one party did no wrong.

I don’t really need anything, but I think it’s common courtesy to explain what has happened and why to somebody you are censoring or removing posts from, particularly if any admonishment is dished out

Leaving me in the dark wasn’t fair play.

But that’s all in the past.
