Bolus dosing

Purity should be largely unimportant for effects, assuming it isn’t grossly impure. But I don’t know about what’s in some of the additives like the trace elements, or where this purported peptide comes into play.

Cool, so I guess we rule out the Trace bottle playing a role if it's added to both and there's still a stark difference in behaviour?

Who said that what you observed wasn’t possible?

It’s the explanations of those observations that are not likely to be true.

You observed a pH rise? That happens all the time for a variety of different reasons.

If you try to explain it in ways that do not make sense, I’ll call it out. If you just say pH rise, you like the effect, demand increases, crisis look good, etc., those are simple observations.

I only ever posted observations and I was categorically told that it couldn’t happen and that I was a fan boy of FM and on their payroll.

I dare say that was to undermine my position and credibility- which I responded to in this thread.

I dare say if I continue again now, my credibility will be questioned again. And so the cycle goes….

You keep injecting yourself back into the conversation in the context that we are arguing with your observations of your tank (we are not) -- and then generating nebulous arguments trying to connect that to the current context.

The only reason "round and round we go" is because you come back and comment about the science or defend FM and then pretend you are not commenting about the science or defending FM. It is perplexing.

If you are talking about the tabletop effect, that evidence is supplied by Fauna / Doug themselves, who then invented the invisible crystal explanation, lol. It is unclear if this effect is long lasting or common. Doug has certainly commented that it appears "If you are doing it right".

My observations, which you will telll me are not possible, are that as I dose bolus Alk, my pH gradually goes up from a peak of 8.3 to now a peak of 8.48. Over the course of about a week or so.

I have observed this on 3 separate occasions when switching to Alk bolus from standard FM balling light.

I have mentioned it on here without having an explanation, but I was told it couldn’t happen.

No other reef tank parameters or equipment changes. No difference in dosing pump or place of dosing.

It’s an observation. I don’t find “it can’t happen” a reasonable explanation. Particularly as I’m not the only one to have observed the behaviour. It’s being increasingly observed in many tanks now.

My own graphs show a similar shape to theirs too, albeit I often get a slight hump on the table. Perhaps a vase sat upon the tabletop effect.

No! I’m not. I’m talking about your posts that bolus leads to reduced calcification as an explanation.

When it’s clear now that the trajectory of said tanks is upwards, not downwards as you had suggested.

6-7 months in, we should be seeing continued negative trends with reduced calcification- not positive trends lol

That is not being stated or argued by the vast majority of participants here (if any, in those terms). Why do you insist repeating things like that if they are not what the bulk of this conversation, or even relevant side conversations for that matter?

Stark difference from what? Pure bicarbonate dosed the same way and in same concentration to the same tank?

Both, but mostly right away, and important to note what it is being compared to.

For comparison here is my daily pH (not sure of any applicability to the discussion).

I dose sodium carbonate six times a day (00:00, 04:00, 08:00, 12:00, 16:00 and 20:00). Each dose is 8.2 ml. I have an AIO and the dose is in the chamber with the pH probe, hence the spikes. The tank has ~31 gallons of water.

Light schedule:

LED Bar 1: 10:00 to 21:00
LED Bar 2: 13:00 to 22:00
T5's (two bulb): 15:00 to 20:00
