After 14 months of use, it is still the most cost effective and therefore the greatest ROI on any of the methodologies I have used in almost 50 years in the hobby.
Do you use bicarbonate without brand or do you mean the faunamarin bicarbonate? If the latter, then I cannot understand this statement.
It's not really about whether it's “better” or not. It's about the stupid statements made by the manufacturer, which, to put it mildly, are often misleading. What's the problem with alk swings if they work anyway? Why do you have to tell a story about the plateau effect?
I have no interest in disparaging any method. It's simply a matter of honest statements and scientifically verifiable processes.

Oh yeah? Well, I compressed sodium bicarbonate into a block that only dissolves when needed and guarantees perfect stability at all times. It's like a little undersea laboratory that does all the work for me.

I am just glad someone finally posted an actual real life graph of it in action. I never understood all the false statements (lies) about what it did. So its just like most other alk dosing, you dose it alk goes up corals use it alk goes down, repeat. Its funny it was one of the main guys though. I wonder if he forgot there was the statement of the tabling effect or is the peak and drop off part of the dosers malfunction? Hmmm.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. 😉
The argument will probably be the same again: an aquarium is not a coral farm, there are many more surfaces such as rock and sand, and that is where the processes take place that cause the magical alk increase and also the table top effect. Blah, blah, blah.
You can turn anything around with words.

Yup thats why I added the doser malfunction part. "See what had happened was...."

Published recently by Claude himself. The graph shows the KH swings in his coral farm. The values from August 29 onwards can be ignored, as he had a problem with the dosing system.

Where is the table-top effect? faunamarin writes in his "how to":

"It is common for the alkalinity to rise up high and remain high and constant for a large part of the photoperiod. This ‘Table-top’ effect where the alkalinity will plateau is a feature of the Bolus method and creates a remarkably stable alkalinity throughout the photoperiod. If you have the means of measuring this phenomenon it is evidence that the Bolus method is working as it should in your tank."
Where did you find this? I found this nowhere?

Just watch the videos, you guys probably not understand what he explained. The graph was not showing the bolus dosing at all, but the aquawiz device that he is testing and he also explained that the device did not work properly and kh is to low...

He is not testing the device, he already uses it for a longer time. And yes he had a problem with the device because he did not clean it, so the KH went down.
But you see the alk swings on a daily basis and you don’t see this kind of swings when you dose evenly over 24 hours.

no that is not correct and he also not use Bolus on all his tanks , he use read2 reef, balling light classical and also bolus in different tanks to compare.

I don't understand what you mean by that. I don't want to argue, just watch the video a few more times.

What was bolus again? Oh yes, one of many methods of supplying a reef aquarium with KH.
Incidentally, this method inspired me. I call it bolus drinking! Instead of drinking 5 beers throughout the evening, I now always drink 5 beers at once, then head to the pub. What can I say, the girls are lining up, each one more beautiful than the last. Bolus rocks!

Sorry for the fun, but I'd say the topic is done. Or is there something substantial coming? After all, it's been over a year now...
