My goal is to take a 75g reef tank that I inherited from a friend and turn it into a full blown coral tank. I hopefully have the majority of the hardware, have a basic knowledge, just need a mentor.
I can help you if you like.
If you want to do this, let's start with 2 simple rules
1- do not jump on every openion out there and try too many things especially at the same time. If you want to follow someone advice make sure you know for a fact they have successful reefs
2- you have to be patient.

Can you do that?

Hi Scott

As already said, you need to pick a mentor, and follow their advice and not jump on every comment or opinion. As you’ve found there can be many opinions, but then again there can be different ways to run a reef tank.

Just make sure you check out the system and tank of any mentor, so you can ensure they are achieving what you want to achieve and then follow their advice.

And if you need anything else you just have to ask, and good luck.

Oh and we need lots of pictures!! Lol

I sure can. That's the whole reason why I need a mentor. When I post on the forum I get 20 different opinions and ideas and I don't know where to turn. I will certainly follow the rules and follow your direction. Are you game?
Ok then.
Lets start by getting to know your system exactly and it's current state.
What's your system age
What's the filtration method
What are the equipments?
Any current dosing?
What are your full parameters if you have not done so yet it's ok we can put s plan together.
What are the current inhabitants
Finally. Couple of pictures for the system and its equipments would help.

First of all, thank you very much Ohashimz:

I you see from my water parameters I'm struggling with Alk, Cal, and Mag. I currently do not dose. The rock and corals are probably 5+ years. I inherited the system 3 months ago.
