Hello,
I’ve just had my long nose butterfly pass the other night and and then my mole tang the next night. I had no idea these fish were sick at the beginning. My Kole tang started showing signs when my butterfly passes and now my box fish is covered in white spots. I assume it’s ich but I just transferred him to my qt and treating him with a mild ich medication I’m wondering if I’m handling this properly and if it is ich ?! I’m afraid I might loose all of my fish !?
Please help.

I got the fish about two weeks ago but the butterfly was dead when I got home and put the box into the tank. Box fish was healthy in the 75 gallon for 3 days and then started showing white spots and now is not eating. The kole tang passes yesterday and wouldn’t close his mouth he had no white spots but he did have a discouloration

I know the box fish’s spots look like ich, but they are rather large and mucusy. The kole looked like it had some gill disease, w/ open mouth, probably rapid breathing also.

So the box fish is the only fish left? Are there corals and invertebrates in the tank? Do you have a treatment tank? I think the box fish needs to be treated with copper ASAP .

I have a quarantine tank set up now that the box fish is in now and I have two designer clowns left in the display tank(75)g I also have two cleaner shrimp and a handful of hermits along with a ton of coral that is all doing great. The LFS I go to told me the kole looked like bacteria and my box fish is looking like ich but yes it’s very large for ich. Also I couldn’t get copper treatment so I bought API super Ick cure hoping this will save the box fish

I think those are large mucus plugs on the boxfish - BUT they could have developed as a reaction to ich trophonts, thus my concern. Are the two clownfish asymptomatic?

Yes they have not shown any signed of being sick but they’ve been spending more time just hanging out at the bottom today.

Oh! is the clown breathing rapidly? It looks like it has a protozoan infection, possibly velvet, Amyloodinium. This can be very serious. They need to be moved to a treatment tank and given a copper treatment right away!

Hello, When box fish get stressed or die they release toxins and in your case, your boxfish has ich which most likely stressed it out causing it to realse toxins which most likely killed your other fish.

I’ve been told that if that was the case all my coral would be suffering too but it’s all doing great , and the butterfly was dead the day I got the box fish , before I put him in the tank

Cupramine is a good choice, be sure to follow the label directions, and you'll need a copper test kit.

The bubble looking things? I saw them, but not sure they are flukes. I think the issue now is a severe protozoan infection, looks like the clown has velvet. I've never seen a boxfish with velvet, so I don't know how they react to it.

One thing for you to keep in mind- Boxfish and cowfish are very touchy and often starve. The big one , box fish are known when stressed or die to release toxins. Hopefilly this did Not affect the other tankmates.
