Do you guys use adhesive to permanently make your aquascapes prior to putting water in? Are there any issues with doing this? What type of adhesive do you recommend? I'd like very stable rock work.

I use gel superglue with an accelerator to initially hold it. I then use E-Marko-400 mortar. I do it outside of the tank then add water once all the rock is in place. You can supposedly use the mortar under water, but I think that would just end up being a mess. IME.

I tried several methods and found Gluemasters thin and caribsea special grade was my favorite. Tidal gardens has a helpful video.

Awesome thread! I can't wait to see what everyone is doing. I have to rescape my 180gal in about a month, and I need ideas! I was never really satisfied with my old aquascape.

Well, here goes... first possible tip. I'm not sure it's going to work yet. I need some time to play with the idea, and if it pans out, I'll post some pics but....

I found some plastic pillars for sale (second hand) and picked them up. They're meant for elevating the second layer of a cake. LOL I wanted to try to do a floating rock or ledge. I watched a few videos of how others have put the floating scapes together, and when I saw the clear plastic pillars, I thought they might work as they're almost invisible. They won't stay invisible for long, so I'll have to figure out how I want to camouflage them. Hum... maybe coming attractions. In the meantime, if you haven't seen the floating scapes, the pic below was found on pinterest.

Here are a few more ideas for floating reefs or reef ledges:

Love the floating reefs! Saw a few similar and it inspired my 24 AIO build for the home office. Already had a few people on video calls ask about it.

That's really neat. How is that accomplished?
Thanks. Check out my build thread. All of the steps are listed. And I will continue to update as I get through my cycle and start stocking.

I’m setting up my first reef tank. Waiting for the tank to arrive, ordered a WB Marine X 60.2. Started my aqua scape this week while waiting. Can’t wait to see it in the tank! This is Marco put together with crushed, rubble and dust Marco and thin superglue.

Hey guys! How’s my aquascape looking? I will also be using mortar to reinforce it before I put it in my tank. The tank is gonna be a 120 sps dominant mixed reef with 2 ribbon eels as the main display animals, that’s why I left so much space in front of the scape for sand, as I’m going to have a pipe that exits the sand at 3 different spots in the front of my tank for the eels to call home.

That is Awesome!

Check out the Photo's of my Nano 10 and video of the 20 at the very bottom.

My new build is an IM Nano Fusion 20 pro with APS aluminum stand.

Lighting - 2 AI Prime 16HDs

Return pump - Mighty Jet 528gph

Skimmer - IM desktop DC Skimmer

Reactor - IM DC desktop reactor

Chiller - chill solutions

UV Sterilizer - IM Desktop UV Ster.

Heater - Cobalt 75watt

AI Nero 3 power head

Aquascape - “Real Reef Live Rock” - The purple rock is manmade but was live at one pont, it was dried out before I was ready for the build

Staxx, Cut off edges of rocks, so they all have a flat back. The back wall is 3 solid and sturdy pieces. Everything is glued to a flat acrylic panel so nothing can get behind this.

Special grade live sand

I’ve managed to stuff the rest of this into my stand

Apex controller
Apex Trident
Apex FMM with LDK (Chiller has plumbing)
Apex Dos x 2
4 x 16oz Dosing reservoir - Once it’s necessary I’ll automate ALK, CAL, MAG, and control PH spikes with Distilled white vinegar
ATO with 2.5 gallon reservoir

I wouldn’t be using most of the equipment during start up

I am using; MicroBacter Start, MicroBacter clean, Vibrant, Dr Tims, and I have some Pro Bio S Probiotic Bacteria. Also used Fishless Fuel.

Tank tested clean X 3, CAL, MAG, ALK, PH levels all optimal

Flow - Nero 3 is flowing end to end on an angle. There will be a flat stream directly above it from the left return. The right return has a rotating nozzle to introduce random flow.

I increased my tank temp to 82, and set my lights to nothing but blue.

Even though the “live reef rock” is covered with Coralline algae. I wanted to add more from a clean source. So I’m trying live coralline algae in a bottle.

My current tank is a Nano fusion 10 with many pests, trying for pest free! 20210306_160650.jpg 20210306_160226.jpg 20210207_172132.jpg

Looking for input on my current setup. I know it needs a lot of work and its also complicated by the fact that it is already full of water. Any advice on best option to bond while underwater? Or would it be better to pull a couple pieces out and put together when dry and then add back in? Only 1 month into setup and didnt realize i should have scaped before adding water.

I've had some luck with CorAffixPro, I've used it in and out of water. If using in water, I'd take the upper rock put some glue on and then stick it where you want... use some pressure and it will bond. Appling it under water is possible but problematic, DON'T suck water back in the tube/bottle.

I like your rock work. Don't let it fall and scratch the back glass. I realize that my 20 gallon is much smaller, but if you look at the video you can tell how sturdy the structure and it's balance. I'm no master but I know that scratched glass sucks.

Good luck.

Give me a thumps up if this helps.

Just noticed this Forum.

Here is my contribution.

THis was the Orginal Scape back in 2019, upgrade from 60 to 110G new setup.

2019-110G-NewTankScape.jpg

All Live Rock moved over from my 60G Tank, with a new Addition, One Carib Sea Arch.

One Arch didn't seem quite enough. So why not TWO Carib Sea Arches.

No photo's so Video is next best thing.
