Well if dumb questions is what you want, here ya go. I have a 18 gallon refugium on a 72 gal display I harvest about 3 gallons of chetto every 2 weeks, my ph swings about .3 every night from 8.3 during the day to 8.6 at night. Should I turn down my light?

Hey Joe, do you run the fuge light 24/7? I rub mine on an opposite light cycle to my DT lights with a slight overlap. PH seems to remain pretty constant.

Thanks Will, The ocean side was full of Sargasso in the surf. we have had a strong south east wind which blows this stuff from the Gulf Stream. Your Id is correct. The other shown in 1st pic, I learned is Ulva.

I have been growing macro both utilitarian and ornamental for 45 years. I have not found it necessary or for that matter benificial to dampen pH cycles between day and night. The reefs in the wild fluctuate between 8.2 and 7.85. I am one of those people that believes Nature knows best. With aroggonite sandbeds, I get passive buffering and trace mineral addittion during these pH swings.

I just restarted my macro collection about 3 months ago I have blue ochtodes, dragons breath, red grapes and chaeto. 2 years ago I got nemastoma sp. lost and just last week I saw a small branch growing on a rock

Not right now, it seems since the chaeto's been online this has dissipated, all the others still grow in the fuge under the Kessil 380. Is there any benefit to that stuff?

Living in Perth Western Australia is a blessing!! I went down to the estuaries 2 weeks ago and I grabbed Gracilaria and Chaetomorpha. I didn't even know that the red macro was I grabbing (it's stuck to rocks and very easy to get) called Gracilaria was OK until I read the link. The stuff has doubled since I put it in the refugium! My Foxface and Tang devour it (and the Chaeto or Caulerpa Brachypus).
This red stuff is good for our health too and Hawaiians eat heaps of it.
I'm going back to the Swan/Canning estuary this weekend to get more. There are also pods and baby shrimp that my carnivores go nuts over. We've had a long hot summer and it's still hot now. Perfect time to collect macroalgae. Don't even have to wade in any deeper than the knees. The article below even says to forget Chaeto and Caulerpa!!

I could mail you what I have available only a 15 minute drive away if it's legal. I don't know how US customs handles living plants coming from Australia. If ok, I would do it but postage costs would probably be expensive. I wouldn't want to earn anything. Just cover the postage and I'm in.

I bought the nemastoma sp. of 2-3 years and most of the macros died after a couple of years of neglect. I brought back the tank back to life and the macro started growing in the sump

Micro algae are unicellular, single cells or grouped together.

Except don't forget that Caulerpa, Halimeda and the other siphonous macroalgae are gigantic single cells!
