Going to document the two month test of dosing Brighwell’s Coral Aminos.

I will start by dosing 4 mL to the tank each evening at 9:45pm until 10pm each night. Dose via a BRS 1.1 mL and have the Apex turn off my skimmer at dosing and 20 minutes after.

I say start because I have a heavy sps tank and have used Acropower in the past on a doser.

This is SUPER exciting! Can't wait to see the progress!

I'm certain that the entire R2R Community would love to see the progress of your test. I honestly think that this should be posted for all to follow along, so I'm going to ask @revhtree or @Daniel@R2R to move this thread into the larger community discussion. :)

I'll tag @Bulk Reef Supply and @Ryanbrs to follow along as well. Fingers crossed!

So I see you have a 130 gallon tank, so you are going to dose 4mL per day? I have just purchased a bottle of this stuff and was going to go half dose to start, just to see what happens. I'll be following along for sure to see how this progresses; I figure it is worth a shot as I have heard it help aid in recovery of newly cut frags.

Mines on the way also. I’m going to follow this. My color is terrible, but I have a slight copper issue that I have not found the source of. It tests .12 on the Hanna. I’m running a reactor with 3 bags of cuprasorb and a bag of old school chemipure. Once I get mine I’ll retest for copper and document also.

I have been using the coral amino over the past six weeks . I decided to give it a shot ....Ive always used acropower . I have really been struggling to keep my nitrates above zero and its a relatively new tank just over a year now to the point of dosing nitrates . My sps were paled out ! Even with the nitrate additions ..... The corals look a lot healthier with more polyp extension and have colored up nice and I have new growth . Overall I'm really pleased so far but we will see !

My phosphates typically run 0.01 and nitrates about 5.

I’ve been dosing now for three days and obviously haven’t seen any changes.

I’ll post comparison pictures each week to track progress.

Today will be dose #3. My copper is testing .05. No change in color, but I feel my polyps are encouraged to come out when I target feed. So hopefully color will start showing up in a couple weeks. Po4 , no3 are undetectable. I am increasing feedings slowly and removing cheato slowly.

Your PO4 is dangerously low and that's likely one of the main reasons your corals are struggling. In my experience, the only time amino acids usually help is when nutrients are too low in a tank and corals are limited by those nutrients. Corals actually benefiting directly from an amino acid addition such as this is unlikely.

You corals look starved, and possibly like you might have a pest. What are you spot feeding with?

The two corals struggling are for know reasons either being over grown or had fallen and I hadn’t noticed so had been shaded.

The tank is doing very well and I have to prune the SPS monthly to keep them from being overgrown.

I’m running Triton and don’t prune my fudge so the die off chaeto feeds the corals.

Obviously nothing visual to report. I have seen a 2 mL increase in Triton dosing. Tested and controlled through Apex Trident.

I increased to 8 ml per day of Brightwell dosing.

Are you dosing the brightwell at the same time every night and are you turning your skimmer or other filtration off? Assuming not target dosing but broadcast dose?

I just started using the brightwell aminos, but going slow since I've heard they can cause algae outbreaks and dosing at night right after lights go out/broadcast.

Both dosing each night night and hand dosing 4 corals.

I'm not part of the test but have been using Coral Amino for 1 month. Coming off of Acropower. Here is a comparison photo. Don't know if it shows up in the photo but I'm seeing decent growth, deeper purples and pinks. I'm broadcast feeding during photo period.
