Add some trochus and astrea snails, increase water flow and aim TOWARDS , not at sandbed. Lower white lights to 20% and blues at 75%. Also add some liquid bacteria to tank. Siphon bedding before you take these steps

I have a Vectra s2 return pump running at 3 and I have an mp40 running reef crest mode on 2 because I don’t want to blast my frogspawn or my BTA to hard with flow. I tried sucking it out with my Python and the algae was back the next morning I have been doing 50% water changes every 3-4 days I’m using RODI water that I make at home and I use Red Sea coral pro salt mix. Thank you everyone for taking the time to help me try to fix this problem I am going to fallow your advice and hope that it cures the problem.

yes i did I did a 50% water change then I added Seachem seagel into my reactor to try to see if that would pull the silicates and kill off the algae but after I did that it got worse.

If it’s brown and stringy and even has air bubbles- dino.
Turns lights way down to near dark or dark , siphon bedding and add 1ml of peroxide to each 10 gallons for 4 days

u can even turn off the light for few days .... those will clear the present problem ... but have to find what causes these algae... if u not find the source, this problem will come again.

for that 50% water change what water did u used .... TDS ..?

It’s not stringy but there is little bubbles on the sand bed they only rise to the surface and pop when my crabs go over them otherwise they stay on the sand bed and also it’s not really on the rocks or glass just the sand

Q1: Does it disappear overnight, and then reappear after the lights have come up?
Q2: Is it at all stringy, snotty and have bubbles in it after peak light?
Q3: does it clump up, or dissipate when you disturb the sand?

PS: unless u have fish death, no need to test for nitrite and ammonia. Save some time :)

From what I have read so far. Never let you yank go on a long time with 0 parameters. You need some nitrate and phosphate levles.

Yes, ultra low nutrients coupled with silty unrinsed sand will do this everytime. No matter how long your tank has been online.
Start looking into vacuuming sand until it doesnt cloud anymore as said above.
If you wanna tackle it quicker, @brandon429
