So, I was just gifted a 50 GPD Barracuda RODI system, which has the same layout as most other systems including the BRS systems. I'd like to add the water saver upgrade, but I'd like to know how folks who upgraded feel about it. Did it come with a new flow restrictor for the wastewater side? Does it need a different flow restrictor on the wastewater side? Good right out of the box?

I purchased a cheap 50gpd 5 stage rodi kit off Ebay, changed out all the cheap filters for brs good filters, upgraded from the 50gpd membrane to the 75 (housings are the same) and then added an extra di cartridge. Did the 150dpg upgrade and have been very happy with it :)

Wow. How much did you save in doing all of that? I'm also reading that the water saver kits shorten the life of the membrane. Any truth to that?

It can depended on your source water and pre filters. When the waste water leaves the first membrane and goes into the second membrane, the water entering the second membrane is a higher concentration of unwanted materials since it's already been filtered once through the first membrane.

I haven't check the tds of my tap water yet, but the reports say it's pretty clean water. Did you have to change the flow restrictor on your setup?

I have the kit and it works great. However my house is on rainwater collection and my incoming TDS is between 20 and 35 depending on what time of year it is

I'll have to double check, but I believe I'm using the 550 flow restrictor with built in flush valve.

I don't think I'll have to do much to upgrade this thing. I'm thinking maybe run the membranes in parallel instead of in series.

I got the upgrade kit and it was super easy. Just clip it on, plug it in and go. I haven’t timed it per say, but it feels like the output has been doubled. On a big day of water making, I’ll make 80g in a day.

Yes but you might flow more than the rated capacity of the pre-filters
Makes sense, but that would address the concern of scaling on the membranes though as they would still get adequate flush. Just trying to get an understanding of what is possible with these systems.
