Did Fluconazole Kill all of your Bryopsis?

  • Yes

  • No

  • I'm treating my tank with it now.

Correct it's 20mg per gallon in a one time dose. You may have to wait longer for it to kill your gha. It has taken some people around a month or even a second dose depending on how much algae you have. I would wait at least 14-21 days after you dose before doing anything else and see how things are looking. You can run your GFO if you want to help remove some of the extra po4 from the die off.

Ok... Thanks!

Anyone have an extra tablet of this? I want to try it, but only need one tab for my 10 gallon. I sure would appreciate it.

Update: I turned my skimmer back on 5 days after adding first dose. I turned it back off 3/16 (15 days after first dose) to add a second dose. I then turned it back on 5 days later (3/21). Today I am going to do a water change as my nitrate level is causing losses. I added a few emerald crabs that have been working on the bubble algae. There was one area of algae that has completely disappeared, so I'm assuming it was Bryopsis, but it was in a spot I could not get a picture. I have not noticed any changes in the rest of the algae.
I have lost a Sunset monti frag and all other corals slowly dying. My nitrates are at 15. I usually run ULN so as the nitrate level rose I brought my alk up as well.
I was hoping this would eventually kill off my GHA, but it's Day 23 so I think mine is particularly hardy.

I will have to look but I am at about day 45 with 2 doses. Waiting for the last little spots of gha to disappear before I declare it all gone. Have not been skimming or anything else except flow with the exception of a water change and 1 day of skimming and carbon before 2nd dose. Gha dies a stubborn death.

I put in an order just now. Bryopsis is one of the very reasons why I got out of the hobby years ago.
Anyone here using the Fish Fluconazole 200mg along with Red sea NOPOX treatment? Wondering if I can use both at the same time or not?
Yes, I have been using the Red Sea stuff before and during treatment , so far no effect except keeping nitrates and phos low, nitrates and phosphate have not gone up and all the algae is almost gone
No Dino's either!!

I'm not sure where things went wrong or why the treatment hasn't worked for you. Looking back through your posts,I can't see anything that you did any differently than the rest of us. Looking at your algae though I can't really see any bryopsis(which is good) So I agree it probably killed your bryopsis first, but it doesn't look like it's going to kill your gha. I know some tanks have taken over a month or so to clear up but yours appears to be growing. Your nutrients being a little higher could be fueling the gha growth but your tank is not the only one that has had extra nutrients from algae die off. I would probably go ahead and do a water change and get things back to normal for your tank and manually remove as much of the algae that you can. If you can remove the rocks and scrub/scrape them, even better. After your corals recover you can always give the treatment another shot to see if you have a better outcome.

That was my thought :) also gonna beef up the CUC and run some Carbon to see if I can get rid of the extra nutrients allowing the GHA to thrive.

I contacted thomas labs and asked for the dosing for a reef tank. Their reply is that fluconazole is a prescription medecin so they can not offer prescribed amount. Only a vet can. Would be nice to know what fish and corals can tolerate to speed up the process.

Has anyone noticed any grow back after treatment from spots that were shaded didnt fully die?
I still had some roots but it may either be because I turned my skimmer on which cut my meds in my tank or it could be that it's not bryopsis. There might have been a different algae mixed in with it. I say this because the majority of the roots are gone everywhere even where it was at its thickest and darkest but some dark areas that were shadowed have roots of what looks to be something different.

BOY this thread keeps going
I'll keep it short but here are before and afters of 7 week two dose treat ment. I kept skimmer on with drain line running back into filter sock and dosed nopox. Some tiny patches of gha in places but they are getting smaller. I added a seaweed holder box thing last week and snails and urchins won't leave it alone.
