So I've noticed a few small spots of bubble algae in my system. Did a nitrate test and getting 0.02ppm results - I assume because my bubble algae is consuming my nitrates which would otherwise be in the system?

Would this be correct?

Algaefix being used carefully a good option? I can't get the crabs required and will also do manual removal

I would never recommend one of the bottled products. Easiest method might be manual removal for small areas.

Algaefix has been perfectly safe to use IME. I have used it for many months on multiple tanks and had those close to me use it on their systems as well. Not a single issue to report. I just start at half dose once a week and watch for signs of stress. If things show any stress, stop dosing and run some carbon. I haven't had anything stress to date and it does wonders to kill off bubble algae.

I also employ manual removal during water changes. I tried multiple pithos crabs with no success. They eat the bubble algae but live very short lives.

I had a bad outbreak recently. Came out of nowhere. Bought three Emerald Crabs and they are on it. Cannot see any after 2 weeks. Now I am wondering what will be their preferred diet after all the bubble algae is gone???
