Hey guys I'm trying to get a 40 gallon or bigger frag tank system going but I'm looking for any ideas on how I can save as much money as possible on this build. I do not care about aesthetics I just want whatever will help me get by well without spending a crazy amount. I heard that people have used like rubbermaid totes or other plastic containers as the tank instead. Is this true? And where would I be able to find one? Are all plastics safe to use? Thanks for any input and ideas!

That’s very interesting about the totes. But, I would recommend finding when petco has their dollar per gallon or search Craigslist or the marketplace (here in R2R). You might catch someone trying to move and look to get rid of there stuff fast

If dead cheap is your goal, and assuming you don't live anywhere tropical.

Get a free bathtub off Craigslist.

I would plumb into your existing system which will save a lot from having to duplicate some of the equipment. I would go shallower rather than deeper on a frag tank so you can use lower end lights and possible less of them and still get the par you need.
