Can anyone explain this RODI system for me?

Just got this 5 stage RODI system from a LFS who upgraded his system.

I can’t for the life of me find the old manual for this BRS RODI unit that will explain what this T junction does. It seems like the newer models don’t have it.

Can anyone explain to me what it does and how it should be operated?

It looks to me like that last stage used to be the di resin (although it looks like it got changed to carbon) and at one point in time that valve was there to take the initial water coming out of the membrane to the waste line. The first water that comes out of the membrane is high in tds (tds creep) so it saves the life of the di resin to send the initial water that the filter makes down the drain instead of through the di resin.

Now that it is coming from one carbon block to the next carbon block I don’t see any reason not to remove the valve, or move it back to before the di resin so you can discard the high tds water before passing it through the di stage.

Okay, I think you were right. This used to be a 4 stage RODI system now converted into a 5 stage system.

I figured out what the T junction does… it’s pretty much flowing from carbon block to carbon block while still leaving the waste water port in place for some reason (black tubing).

But, if I’m correct, this blue tubing should go into the DI resin filter correct? And the other black tubing tthat’s connected to the flow restrictor is still considered waste water?

Ignore the black tubing coming from the bottom canisters… it’s the old tubing from when it was a 4 stage.

Usually, a Hach DR/900.

Except it comes out of the box with the bypass valve installed between the two carbon blocks...

That is true... Who knows what or why these crazy kids did what they did... It is a three way valve though, I would just get some new tubing and run it after my second carbon to flush.
What is scary is this is what the LFS was using... I run an 8 stage system...

If it was a line to get a water sample why would it be tied into the waste line? Although could easily be changed into a sample line if the OP wanted by disconnecting it from the waste.

Btw can anyone help me here with this question? I’m confused as to which hose to attach my DI resin canister to.

The blue one. It is the filtered (permeate) side of the membrane.

I don't know for sure how it came out of the box but mine isn't attached to the waste line.
