Can eels be treated with coppersafe?

lol, he’s a bengal and has an affinity for water. I should have seen it coming tbh.

This is my last tank and you can see him in the back about to dip a paw as I had removed the lid for a photo… but he also looks to be eying that yellow tang (yum!).

When I had ATI fixtures, he would lay on them or even swing them. He’s a booger.

My new tank has a canopy but it’s open.. however it was the external overflows he was dipping in!

I had my QT tank in the attached garage but gave the cats access in there when company was staying with us so they wouldn’t be annoying and I guess it was… I dip, you dip, we dip…

My other bengals don’t go playing in the tanks except once when I was filling an IM25g for the first time and one thought it must be a new swimming pool…

Seems like my 6 cats are going straight into the cage now Lol, if I ever get a outbreak I'll now know who to blame

haha, well dang cat cost more than all the fish combined. He's a sweety and more like a dog than a cat. Likes water (obv), LOVES playing fetch... probably as much as a labrador... he runs on a giant cat wheel to burn energy... but he definitely gets into things that I wish he wouldn't!

Also he did get a copper treatment (sort of) - he fell in the copper QT tank, I had to give him a bath...

I assume this is a typo? Typical reef tank salinity is 1.026... 1.09 is quite high, did you mean 1.009?

I would dose at 2 ppm and then raise it to 2.25. The eels may go off feed, but it won’t affect them long term, as long as they have good body mass going in to the treatment.

Do I need to fallow after I treat them in the DT or not because of the meds?

That’s a tough call. If you go the full 30 days then I usually call that good, even though a normal drug less fallow period is 45 to 60 days.

So 30 days fallow or 30 days of treatment? I cant really remove them from the DT easily. And Ive started the coppersafe in the DT, so does that mean I have to pull them after the treatment to fallow?

30 days of treatment. I'd go with 14 days "fallow" after that, just for safety.

I always assumed copper was 30 days because it kills the free swimmers while fallow without fish is 45 since you need to wait for those last free swimmers that may have released towards the end of the 30 days to starve off and die.

Eels are indeed prone to parasites.

My tessalata did not eat for 1 month and was vigorously shaking its mouth aswell as having seizures, i threw him in the qt and just after the first full dose of praziquantel, three days later, he gobbled up 2 prawns, just to let you know that before i had to force feed him just to swallow food so technically he did not eat for 2 months that's if I did not force feed him, it is known that eels go through hungerstrikes but in my case if I just would've left him be it would've most likely ended in a disaster.


If you are gonna treat the tank for a month i doubt that any of the eels would eat anything in that 30 days, i would suggest you do remove them, but sure do prepare the qt to handle those mass bioloads

Sorry, I meant by “fallow” with the eels in place, but no copper, at the end of the copper treatment.

I know for a face the copper level isnt at the recommended dose as when Francis died I assumed only the eels were left and didnt bring it up since they are so sensitive to it. Im checking to see what it is now

Yeah he is a zebra dart fish. I used to have a school of them but this is the only one that made it through the tank transfer. He hides a lot so I need to get him more friends for him to be out more. But his name is Stick
