I have never owned one and probably never will be able to but I would love one. I mean 360 degrees of aquascape and full 3 sided view. The challenge would then be how to generate proper flow without obstructing a very visible end. Closed loop and bottom drill might be the only solution for that.

Peninsula tank need 48” width. My tank dimensions is 96x36x24 n it look very shallow from front since i have to stag the rock in the middle which make it look narrow. Another draw back much harder for flow control since u can only mount power head on 1 side and u have ti clean 3 panel of window :)

If youve lived in Florida all your life, peninsula should be a familiar word, lol! This 65 gal peninsula was not easily set up, it’s narrow and the rocks had to be stabilized right down the middle. All filtration components underneath were custom to fit including a stacked refugium which drains to a secondary sump below it. This reef tank runs really well, going on 7 years.

For peninsula tanks in my opinion it's all about layout. Not every home has a good 'position' that can support a peninsula, but most have flat walls that allow traditional tanks. I would love a peninsula for the unique ability to have 2 longer viewing panes as well as having a reefscape that has multiple broad angles. Unfortunately, my house is an open layout that doesn't have that perfect spot. I've actually looked at this recently as I'll be beginning a build soon.

If I ever make an addition to the back of our home, I thought about setting up a peninsula tank so that I can have fish room on the other side of a doorway. If the tank fits the doorway just right and it included a custom hood, no one would even know that there was a doorway on the other side. If I ever need to sell the house, the tank could be removed and the fish room could be converted into a small office, utility room, or large walk-in closet rather easily.

I would appreciate some input on this idea.

I would only set up a peninsula tank if it went with my house without looking out of place and if I could figure out a way to provide flow to the end of the tank without obstructing the viewing area and clean look of the tank.

my home is just not large enough for a peninsula tank as set up now, because it definitely will ruin your flow if the installation is not designed for your space.

that said we are going to redesign our house, but we did just purchase a standard 210 gallon tank so we'll have to design around that. anyway we are thinking about selling this house after all our renovations, and moving so hopefully the future buyer will be interested in keeping the tank.

Not optimal for my space, but also not a fan of seeing through to the other side and seeing the rest of my room.

In the house I have, there is no room for the peninsula style except in the basement, that said, I love the look and the opportunity to view from multiple sides. perhaps in the future i might decide to build in the basement and if I do it would be a 4' by 8' by 18" peninsula mixed reef with a 100 gallon sump. dream big or stay on the porch! Yeah, I know that on this site that is mid-range but it would be huge for me...

I have always wanted one but never had the place to put one. Being able to see both sides of the tank is awesome but it needs to be large to do that.

I have a peninsula tank that has been evolving for many years.

Years ago, I had a very similar setup. It was a 240, built in a floor to ceiling stand, with a support column right at the end. Rather than leaving it visible, as you've done, I 'capped' that end of the tank, boxed it in with the stand. You couldn't see in the ends, but both faces were visible. Very similar to yours.

Mine was whitewashed... tried to look like Miami beach decor :)

My peninsula is 10’x4’ and it’s not a room divider; it’s the room!

Flow is the biggest issue. In the old days we used big pumps and it was easy to hide the return manifold overhead in the canopy. But today the return pump is small and also, tanks are like art so we want to show off the seams and the panels and all the bits. We hang our lights from the ceiling very minimalist so there isn’t much room to hide things. Now we have unsightly powerheads stuck to a viewing pane. As the owner it becomes invisible after a while but visitors notice it.

How are the lights supported/ installed?
This tank was initially set up with a center overflow like shown below. Since I hate wires I had an extra hole drilled in the tank and use a 1-1/2 pvc pipe with a bulk head fitting that comes up above the water level. I then ran a 1-1/2 OD stainless steel bar rail tube inside that which is where I run the wires. The top of the tube has additional bar rail components (tees and flanges) to attached my Radions

They make great room dividers opposed to a wall and ease of access for maintenance but DO consume a lot of space within a room
