I have a Peninsula tank but not presented in the peninsula way. I wanted the size, plumbing at the end suited my location much better than traditional middle overflow, kids stand on a stool at the end and look right down the tank with rocks in the middle, flow seems much better too.

Love my peninsula / bar :) Easy to reach, since I can walk all the way round it... at 18" depth, I can even keep my sleeves dry. Wonderful place to enjoy a relaxing Scotch whisky of an evening :)

Mine is on the way now as a room divider. I will be starting in less than a month. Considering a build thread this time. There are so many possible aquascaping ideas so my mind is always busy these days :D this is how it will look like

I recently started buying parts to make my 55 into a peni. Yeah people are always going off on the awful dimensions of a 55, but that short stubby tank fixes a lot of the end-to-end problems. It will divide a dead area between the kitchen and living room. I'll post pix as soon as I actually start doing work.

I have a hard time remembering how to spell the word "peninsula"! There I said it now we can move on. :p

This QOTD is inspired by my good buddy and fellow mod @dbl and his peninsula thread here.

So I've never been really in to peninsula tanks.....until now. Lately I've started to get a itch to set one up but I'm scared. I mean how awesome would it be to be able to view your tank from 3 separate sides and get a whole new look each time? But then again that's also 3 sides you have to keep clean and 3 more sides you have to like your aquascaping job! It also presents a challenge when designing the pattern of flow you want in your tank because it's harder to hide the wires and pumps on a peninsula tank. Or maybe I'm overthinking it?

This is where you come in by answering the following questions.

1. What is your experience with peninsula reef tanks? Yay or nay?

2. What are the pros and cons of maintaining a peninsula reef tank?

@MJC's beautiful peninsula tank!

It’s hardly a peninsula, but I’m building a 3’x 2’x 2’ 90 gallon peninsula that will sit next to the arm of my couch. I would have gone with 30” or 36” cube, but I don’t have the width to do that.

I plan on it sitting on a short stand that will place the bottom of the tank on level with the arm of the couch, making it perfect to view while sitting at the loveseat or couch that are next to it.

I don’t have pictures to post yet as the tank will be ordered this Friday.

This is my 185 gal Peninsula reef tank at my orthodontic office. The attached 2’x4’ fish room and 2’x6’ Peninsula tank was worked into the design of the new office buildout to allow the aquarium to seen from multiply locations in office. Panels were added around the aquarium to allow for access and to allow for a seemless design with the adjacent wall.

I have the Red Sea 650 which I see while sitting at my desk on one side and with a sitting area on the opposite side with two chairs that face the tank. I like the tank very much. The desk sits just far enough from the tank for me to get between them to do maintenance. Flow needed upgrading. I used the gyres first but ended up with an mp60.

Here is the one I have been working on for over a year, it divides three rooms. The room to the left is painted entirely dark blue / grey - and the tank sits low and is four feet from front to back to minimize the "look through" effect. With the lights set properly, it should look like a blue back ground. There is an overflow room closet one end and the sump is in the basement.

One downside I've heard about is the fish tend to gather at the side water gets pushed . I'm sure with opposite flow would be super cool

I have a peninsula tank that has been evolving for many years. I decided to put all plumbing and pumps in a stand on the end near the wall and have access to both sides and an additional tank above for second phase acclimation of fish before they go into the main display.
The only thing under the tank is the ato tank for top off water. Left side is for future auto water change area.
Challenges are definitely flow and cords for pumps.
Love that i can view from three different tank looks.
Very easy to do maintenance as well.
Still working on cable management.
Here are a few pictures of it.
Cons: i have to buy more corals..

This looks amazing! We are planning something similar with the one we have on order. Our basement is a dark blue, and we're building a stand that will have wainscoting and a canopy to match that goes up to the ceiling to give that built in look. We're also planning lift up style doors in the canopy.
