hello,
I am about to change over aquariums and will have 2 obsolete canister filters 1) 75 cascade and 1) 150 cascade. I’m wondering if I could use them for GFO and carbon. I know they can hold more media than required so thinking about using filter floss in other 2 chambers. Will this cause any issues or be ineffective? I hate to not have a use for them. The change over tank has a sump but lacks the carbon and gfo reactor. Also being new to sumps if I can find a way to use the canister filter(s) could the inlet/outlet go into sump or would that cause too much draw?

I think that would be a great use for the spare canisters.

I did the same for a while with a canister I had until I was able to sell it.

Just make sure you're using an appropriate amount of carbon or gfo. I would put the carbon in a media bag and put it in the canister and it looked like so little, I would end up almost filling a tray with carbon.

I can't say it worked any better than having carbon in a media bag in the sump.

So the tear/setup was an all day event one of my overflow pipes leak by at bulk head so that worries me, I spent hours trying to find out if both overflows emptied with sump started at min line if I would flood, which I learned was actually quite difficult. I knew better than to think this would be easy lol.
