I adopted as well. Cat use to wait for me to get home and follow me around the house like a dog.

This one is like a dog too.
Follows me around everywhere I go in the house. He is only 7 months old.

Me and my wife are looking to get a cat. I grew up with dogs my whole life but I feel bad leaving a dog alone for 9 hours a day. Looking at getting a Russian blue as they are somewhat hypoallergenic. Anybody have experience with this breed or currently have one and where there are good breeders

I had one for 15 years she was amazing the whole family loved her. We adopted her through humane center. I feel it’s better to adopt a cat then pay a. Thousand dollars for one plus your saving a life. Hope you enjoy your kitty

Love my two furry feisty felines. Both were adoptions, the grey one (Abigail) was a kitten, and the white one (Yeti) was full grown, and deaf when were adopted him.
And this fella and his 4 siblings are my feline friends while I'm still in Iraq

I’ve had that problem. The cat I posted the picture of was very mellow really bummed when it died then I got another of the same breed and it was so obnoxious I had to take it back. No one could even walk because the cat would weave in and out of your feet and it would meow in your face in the middle of the night. Felt bad for taking it back but just not the right cat for us. Going to have to find another.

siamese seal point. He was 4 when we adopted him. Had him for over 10 years. He died shortly after we got our house. Sad ; (

I have a snowshoe siamese that is a dog basically. They are loyal to a fault, have to be with you at all times to guard you (originally were royal guard cats for the king of Siam). He opens doors, friendly beyond belief, soft, loving and smart. Everything you could want in a fur friend.

I also have a blue russian and she's a hoot, chatty, fun, spunky, and sweet. Really love her too, very loving and fun.

My single greatest advise to anyone getting a cat is don't pick a breed, don't even pick a cat. Let the cat(s) pick you out, they are very opinionated creatures and if they don't like you, you're going to hate having a cat. I have a herd of cats and they follow my wife and I from room to room, hang out, want to be petted and loved all the time. We never once picked for a breed and always picked based on personality and temperament.

Like others have said, check rescues, don't look for breed specific, but personality, and which cat comes to you. Rescues are always funny, different, and thankful.

This was my rescue, a black American shorthair. rescued from a box in the middle of a semi-truck lot.
She loved to try to feed on my Husky. I have a video, about 8 years+ old now. I was in college and so confused by this. My Husky really liked the cat and would protect it from birds(have hawks,owls, and other large birds where i live)
Sadly we assume a coyote ended up getting her one time she wandered too far and didnt come back.
Strange little cat.

We got my Mom 3 rescue cats. One is a Russian Blue mix, one a tabby & one a Tuxedo mix. We asked the shelter staff for personality match - gentle dispositions & cats that like to snuggle.

Like dogs, personalities can vary so much. Shelter staff can tell you a lot about individual cat temperaments & help you pick a good fit for your home. Tell them the hours when you are home, what kind of temperament you want (independent or snuggly), if your home is quiet or loud etc. My Mom loves her rescues! They are a great fit with our family thanks to guidance from shelter staff.

Oh - don’t forget to ask about cats that have been there awhile... the Tuxedo mix had been there a long time. She is a fantastic cat. Lots of personality & very affectionate. She looks just like “Fat Louie” for those of you familiar with the Disney princess movies.
