Seen some strange looking tube poking out of one of the mouths of my elegance. Poop or something bad?

This is definitely some kind of parasite. Two litte tentacles are poking out of that tube.

Could be a vermetid snail or a spionoid worm. Either way the elegance is not happy.

I cant tell if its growing through or around it. But once the worms dead the tube should break down over time. Hopefully the elegance can recover.

So against my better judgement i took a pair of tweezers to it and, very VERY gently, extracted the tube worm. It was indeed growing inside the soft tissue of the mouth of the coral, extracting it was like pulling an ingrown hair. It opened up again this morning like nothing had happened.

Great!

Good trouble: Have mushrooms ever become pests in your aquarium?
