Catching purple tang

The purple tang in my tank has wore out it's welcome. Any tricks or tip catching a fish in a tank full of rock and corals?

Came here to recommend that very same thing. The floating traps are great for this kind of thing. put it in the tank and start feeding nori or whatever your tang likes best in there for a day or so, this will make them confident they can go in and gets them over the 'new thing bad' attitude. Should be cake to catch it after that.

I placed it in a path that it usually swims across, and corralled it into it.

It swims in as it doesn’t see the trap.

I thought catching it would take hours. Literally took. A minute

I have a Nyos trap already. The opening looks like it is too small for the tang to go into it.

I thought about that but my tank doesn't have room to try this. With the rock and coral growth it's pretty tight.

What about using some thin acrylic or polycarbonate dividers? Effectively sequester the tang to half of the tank, then slowly close in on it using a number of different sized plastic “walls” until it’s out of hiding places?

You can try to find the perfect sized container.

Just big enough for fish to swim through. Surely there’s room if the tang lives in there.

The other week I had to get a white tail out of mine. Ending up using A roll of window screen. Magnetized one end to the side of the tank with my strapper and then force it to the corner. The whitetail is a heavy rock dweller though. Ended up having to force him out out it first and then stuffer smaller pieces into the crevices so he could not go in and then chased him into the screened area and was able to scoop it out. Wasn’t pretty or fun but got the job done. My rock work is all glued so rearranging was not an option.

I’ve caught Tangs just by putting nori on a clip (high up in the corner of the tank) and using a big red net to come in behind them when they’re busy eating the seaweed. You’ll probably get some water splashing out of the tank, but other than that it works pretty well.

I have also done this (except i was chasing a foxface), works pretty good.

It ended up being alot easier than expected. I had to do the mirror trick to keep it from killing the new butterfly I added. It was so engrossed in the other tang in the mirror I scooped him up rather easily with a net. Hopefully it works on the Tomini too.

Wouldn't that be a "trap"? Clever though.
