Caught me a Stone Crab

Only have one more to go. They hitch hiked their way in on some TBS rock. It’s now living in one of my roller chambers. Thing is big. It’s grown a lot since. I first discovered it. I need to figure out how to get the other one. It relocated to a really difficult place of the tank to get to.

How did you get him? I tried to wrangle up some gorilla crabs that came with my TBS rock, and one spud in particular I just coudn't get. I ended up pulling apart my tank to finally get the last, obviously "smartest" crab.

Finally caught the one that came in on my TBS rock too. Threw him in the sump. I had a bunch of crabs come some ruby red emeralds, gorillas, and this guy. Took me about 10 months to catch them all, with the stone crab being last.

I love TBS rock and sand, and I talk them up on R2R all the time. It comes with some negatives, such as these crabs, but totally worth it for everything else you get; simply awesome rock :)

He came to me by request on an order from TBS and I had him in his own 10 gallon. Sadly, he perished in an ATO related malfunction while I was on vacation, which is always the way that happens. I'm really hoping to get exactly one of these with my next order of TBS rock. One lol :)

Yeah I’m a huge fan of the ladies at TBS. I’d never do this a different way. This last order was a big one. I got about 150 pounds of rock, mostly premium. This last batch has really had a bunch of hitch hikers, which I am not complaining. It goes both ways. I have at least 30 porcelain crabs and a couple pistols. I hear them at night having shootouts. I plucked a bunch of stuff off the rocks before I put them in the display. But I missed a ton. I’ve killed about 20 gorillas. I’m aware of about 6 more. Just recently they have all come out from under the rocks and moved into caves where they are visible. I’m letting them get use to me, then one night this week, I’ll go in with my StarWars light Sabre. I also discovered a mantis just last week. I also have a bunch of those Red Emeralds, are those a problem?

As to how caught it, I knew the rock it was under. I let him get use to me poking around the rock for a week or so. That way when I went in to flip the rock, it did try and run right away. I just netted it up.

Somebody posted on here about using a glass jar standing upright next to the rockwork with a weighted bait that stayed on the bottom of the jar. The crab would come to eat and stretch to get into the jar, hopefully falling inside, having a nice meal, and then not being able to climb out of the glass with zero traction and hand holding points.

You need a tall, deep and wide glass, and a sunkin stink bait to start crabbing?

My wife and contractor told me to tie a piece of raw chicken to a string and wait. Then slowly reel them in. I did buy a pest trap. The only things I’ve caught are CUC and increased my nutrients, lol.

I caught the gorilla crab with some raw shrimp and a plastic bottle trap. I got him in the sump but might need to remove he’s getting bigger. I feed him 3 times a week the raw shrimp assuming he also gets all the stuff out of the overflow too.

Two months ago, it’s definitely bigger now
