Caulerpa the same as chaeto?

Do they pretty much do that same thing? Deplete nitrates as well as phosphates? Thank you!

Yep! And I personally like calerpa better. I don’t remember chaeto being around when we started in this hobby years ago. I think most people like chaeto because it’s easier to keep control of. Many calerpa species have runners and can get everywhere really fast. Personally, I don’t mind that. Tangs love it too!

Yes and caulerpa is less finicky and more likely to grow without adding trace elements. Depending on the species will also likely grow much faster then cheato.

Will it grow in the display?

Rampant if allowed. Thankfully, herbivores will eat it. Our yellow tang munches on it and the foxface loves it. I have/had three species of caulerpas in our refugium along with some chaeto that hitchiked in there. The caulerpa typically outgrow it but occasionally the chaeto will be the dominant algae. It seems to go through cycles throughout the year.
