Hello Everyone.
I've always had a strong passion with fish keeping from a young age.
Several years ago I got back into the hobby with a second hand 4ft tank that I bought cheap equipment and the addiction took hold quickly turning into a new 6ft tank that I fabricated the stand for out of steel.
3 years on and I've done it again stepping it up to the biggest tank I could fit in the house. This tank was designed around our house plan when we built our family home.
So the new monster is measuring 3000x1100x750mm with a sump 1800x900x500mm
Getting this tank inside was a feat in itself.
Originally I had planned to use a crane then local laws with road closures for the crane and surprise soak wells being placed in the driveway prevented this option.
I'm lucky to have such wonderful neighbours that offered for me to use thier side access.
One would say easy well, had to use wood board to make tracks that we pulled up and replaced as we went over 30 meters of sand 15 meters of grass and to add a 300mm retaining wall we had to negate. Once we were finally are the door way I stripped the handle off the door to free us up 13mm of clearance to get it inside.
I fabricated the stand again, I included a extra 300mm onto the games room side as a bar. Future additions are planned for this bar and turning the room into a man cave.
With having such a large volume of water and not wanting to make the floors wet like previous tanks, I've made this one have some different features. Like a 25inch pool sand filter that will be filled with scoria as I want this to be a bacteria driven tank. When the scoria starts to get detritus build up I'll simply be able to back wash it.
Sump design will have its waste holes in each baffle section for ease of cleaning and draining.
I have a decent sized solar system on my house so I'm planning to capitalize on this by buying equipment that is programmable. Ticks along during the night amd ramps up when the sun is out.
I'm still in early stages of set up. Sorting the bits and pieces out and with working away for work limits my time on this build.
I'll keep you all updated with progress photos as they happen and hoping to have it wet by New year 2020
It will be a SPS dominated tank
