Chalice Woes....

So did you ever find out what the problem was? and what did you do to fix it? I have a similar problem going on so I brought all my chalices to Kraylens house to hold for me until they recover. I guess I am lucky to have a friend with a prop tank set up so close to me.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Well, first off that was a wide range of dips... seems like taking all the medications you have for a unknown pain source.
Typically Revive and TM can actually make a damage piece of coral worse IMO... if anything, damaged LPS flesh would benefit from a lugols/iodine bath over the others.. I add 2-3 drops of lugols into 3-5 cups of tank water... usually my best bet. Reefer831 brought me several chalice corals 2 nights ago with damage ranging from burnt rims, to looking like they went through a woodchipper... I did a 70 degree lugols dip for about 8 minutes and placed them in a low flow/low light spot in the ghostbox. Every chalice is showing quick signs of recovery from flesh regeneration to a regain in color. The week prior to these chalice being brought to The Ghostbox.. they were being dipped in revive and doing worse.

Interceptor..... for SPS? No.... Interceptor is going to kill ALOT of things.. Interceptor is going to kill things we may never see... which is why it is so good... and bad! You've heard of red bugs... have you heard of black bugs? Ever heard of tiny crabs that live inside of LPS and eat them from the inside out like a suicidal cannibal who was full of himself?(wow) Most "bacterial infections" and unexplainable diseases are usually the work or some small critter we can't even see... or normally would not be looking for. Interceptor makes little work of big pests like these.... Robert recommended a super concentrated Interceptor dip for a decent period of time to take care of this... If you are not treating the entire tank of course.

With the more recent Aussie and "Japanese" shipments coming in.. we are seeing a lot more uncommon pests in our tanks. Black Bugs come from Australia I believe so keep your eyes peeled.

Listerine has alcohol in it, but I wouldn't recommend getting drunk off of it :)

Works for me too. I now kept all my tanks between 10-12 dKH.

I am not sure if you have tried this but it seems to work well when Cerissa did it. She dipped the receding frags in a super concentrated Interceptor solution...1/2 of a large tablet in roughly about 1/2 gal of water for 3 mins. The recession stopped and both of her pieces are now completely healed from the recession. I think her frags probably contracted black bugs which is known to take a liking to chalice and acans.

I'm aware of the incoming pests on LPS and I'm quite familiar with red bugs, black bugs...In my honest opinion, I don't believe Lugol's is the miracle cure.

What I did for dipping my chalices is based on the foundation of a multiple target attack strategy, commonly known as a "triple cocktail". The purpose behind this is to prevent any parasite that may have escaped one dipping, to fail to escape the second or third. Parasites who have potentially short life cycles tend have a higher adaptability rate in following generations.

Robert, do you run any issues with sps with your alk higher? Also, I've tried dipping it before... though not 1/2 a tablet but a 1/4 in a smaller volume. I might have to try that again. I'm running out of interceptor, I will have to see the veterinarian again. It appear I might have to go back to the drawing board unfortunately. I might just have to set up a separate tank just for the LPS until whatever in the main display has passed. I'm just getting tired of this.... (btw, I swear I'm going to make the drive up to your store one day. :) )
