Just curious what other people's experiences are with this, as it's my first time doing this today.

Do you guys recommend removing all the fish from the tank or what steps do you guys recommend for switching out all the substrate? Do I remove corals as well?

I just want this to go as smooth as possible with no hiccups or deaths.

Yes. Move fish and coral drain display tank water and place in holding tank. I just switched out sand with the expert guidance of brandon429. Refer to my build thread. No cycle. Went smooth

Curious - What is the purpose of replacing all the sand?

Because my black sand is slowly leeching metals into my tank killing corals.
Oh, sorry to hear that. Best of luck to you in this process.
