So reading through other posts about benificial methods of keeping levels good I saw talks about refugiums and putting macro algae in. I didn’t go with a sump setup this time (never done one and was a little hesitant, but wish I would have now…oh well). I had a thought though. I have a Reef Octopus Skimmer that is clear and has baffles. Would it work to stick some cheato down in the intake section or would that be more trouble than it is worth/not a good idea?

It won't work as a skimmer and chaeto reactor at the same time, but the skimmer might be modified to work as a growing chamber instead of a skimmer. You would want to shield the light to prevent light leaking into the DT and other issues, but yes it is possible. A good idea, who knows until you try it?
